T8 58w to T8 LED

Hey guys,

So I got x10 5ft T8 58w 5400LM lights and I'm thinking about upgrading to LED
tubes but I'm unsure if it is a upgrade at all? The ones I am looking at are the
replacement LED for my current tubes

Current 5ft T8 58w 5400LM
Upgrade 5ft T8 24w 2400LM LED (58W Equivalent)

Worth it??

The plan is to have 10 5ft tubes for veg (6500K) and 10 for flower (2700K)

How many short high yield autoflowers could I hope for?

Thanks for any help! :weed:

Five foot T8???

5400 lumens/58w = 93 lumens/watt.
2400 lumens/24w = 100 lumens/watt. Less than half the light and 7% more efficiency, not good.

Samsung and Bridgelux strips are around 180 lumens/watt.

Oh that's not good then..

The Samsung and Bridgelux strips, do you they need to be DIY'd?

Those are 4 ft, not 5. ( I didn't even know they made 5 ft.)

I think the 10 tubes you have would cover about 5-6 square feet. Also, 6500k is rather high, most people are now going with 3000k or 3500k for both veg and flower.

Yes, Samsung and Bridgelux strips are DIY, but it's not difficult.

Thanks for the tips, I got the impression these 2 spectrum's were essential
Do you think it's worth getting the LED's, will the light be enough to cover
5' by 6'? I've only have 1m height for the grow so they will never be far from the light

Which LED's? A general rule of thumb is 30 watts per square foot (322 watts/square meter) with good, efficient LEDS. With only 1m of height, I'd go with Bridgelux EB gen-2 or Samsung single row strips. The light and heat is very spread out so they can be run very close to the plants.

Hundreds of pages about the strips here on RIU.
Some very good info here. http://ledgardener.com/diy-led-strip-build-designs-samsung-bridgelux/
