I just got to week 4 of flower, and I’d like to get some hardness to my harvest.

Any ideas?

I’m using a 600w HPS inside a 5x5 tent, growing in Coco and using an automated feeding system with RO water and base Botinicare nutrients and CalMag that I have begun to supplement with 1ml/gallon of botinicare flowering enhancer.

I have heard of G-10 made by Humboldt farmers or something like that. My hydro store was carrying it, and then stopped. When I asked about it, the clerk gave me some weird ass reply of ‘he heard that they added heavy metals’ to their nutrients. I took that with a grain of salt.

Any rate, any help appreciated.

Here is a pic from a day or two ago under the HPS light.

Been heavily maintaining an environment of 85 and below to avoid ‘foxtailing’. I also add co2 to the tent.

85 is way too hot without more light and co2 added.

Not sure how intense the light needs to be to require co2. But it is a max light need. The plants don’t need it until they have more light than they can use normally. That is not the case with a 600 in a 5x5.

It may result in fluffier less potent buds. 75 is a better target. Also humidity needs to stay in a reasonable range.

Also a 600 hps only covers a 3.5 x3.5’ area for best results. 4x4 can work. But 5x5 needs 1000 Watts.

These are guidelines only and many Growers make many things work for them. But the guidelines are pretty reliable.

Also products won’t increase quality. Environment is more important. When you get dialed in and see more vigorous growth leading to deficiencies then it’s time to consider something to add to the base nutes. And still not necessary.

I hope this info is helpful.

Totally appreciate it, bro.

My last harvest was a light and airy flower that is not my preference, I prefer a much denser flower that has hardness to it.
I'm going to chop a few plants tonight.
Two have dense buds and two are fluffy.
The only difference is strain.

I have found that indica dominant plants are much easier to grow if you top them and let em spread out. Sativas seem to do better if I flip them while they're small.

Dr. Who is spot-on with the recommendation for 600w HPS. I used one in a 5X5 for a couple of years, but also had cheap LED side panels + lizard lights. Yield was OK but not great. I could usually get around 800 grams if I stuffed it completely full.

How's your heat situation? If you can manage another light, two 600s would totally rock a 5X5. You could even run mixed spectrum with MH & HPS.
I've seen nice HID gear super cheap on craigslist. If you had $100 to spend you could easily get a good 600w ballast + reflector and still have enough for a brand new bulb.

If heat is a problem, DIY quantum boards or COBs would be great in a 5X5. You could build something nice for around $500...

Hey guys, I’m case anyone gives a fuck, here is an update at week 7. Next Friday is 53 days from flower, which should be harvest day per the seed breeder.

Any rate, that flush seemed to have worked. I’m kind of stoked right now. This is the best I’ve done to week 7.

Don’t go by breeder times. That flower is about to expand and get bigger along with a lot more trichomes if you can keep her going.

Pretty frosty now. You can see the problems but you have recovered her plenty to get a bunch of decent smoke looks like.

Thanks, again, I’m stoked to have gotten this far after previous issues a plenty.

I have dropped the feedings down to about 450ppms. Was planning to drop another 50’ish, and cut it down a week from Friday, after checking under magnification.

You have put all this info ,but not put some of the most important ,what size fan you using to get this heat out of the growing area ,and what sized in let.Looks pretty good a few problems I can see ,but you have ended up with a nice amount to smoke, and that is all that matters

That is likely from the heat.

But even if you dial down and get the enviro spot on for the amount of light you have... there is a limit to the denisty of your nugs. A lot of people get used to nugs that come from a CO2 supplemented environment, without knowing it... and then when they start growing their own and expect the same thing, which just wont happen without CO2.

So... are your nugs really airy or are they just not rock hard CO2 nugs, i wonder...

It also depends on the strain. Some strains require VERY intense light to reach their full potential, while other strains do just fine with moderate intensity.

Hey,

I run CO2 in my tent, it’s cheap enough.

I’m pretty sure my issues previously was foxtailing, I had let my environment get too hot and my colas too close to the lights.

co2 doesn't really help density, mostly just increases weight but from what i have seen from dispensaries that run CO2 , they run higher temps, which causes buds to spread out more.

I beleive a stake through the stem will give you your desired effect.

Like others said, i'm pretty sure you're gonna need more light to really feel the effects of the added co2. It really only works when your environment is perfect, and 600w in a 5x5 ain't really that. If you can get a 2nd 600w in there you'd probably see much better results.

Another 600w in my 5x5 tent? Yeah, I think I should achieve about a 120 degree environment.

CO2 costs about 10 bucks a month to run. If it works (which I believe it does), great. If it doesn’t work, it’s 10 bucks a month.
