I don't think 240W is enough for a 3x3, that is why you have so many ball-shaped nugs.
If Iook at my colas, they are not giant, I suspect that would take 200W strips, but I have yet to run a large yielding strain under the strips. My colas are pretty large, well out of the ball-shaped nug territory, especially considering they were grown on 300W.
I don't mean to use you as a specific example, but I am trying to find anyone growing large colas using lower powered strips, say 50W or less.
And all I find is more of the same. I'm pretty poor, and did quite a bit of math before I worked out it would need 1 double row F-strip per 20cm, run at test current to equal the efficiency of a 600W HID.
I could find no shortcut in delivering enough photons than to actually put down the required Watts at the efficiencies the strips operate at. Having 59 strips is nice, but when you have to fit them in that 20cm space to reach the required energy density is another story.
I have a prediction that we will continue to see nice even beds of smaller nugs with lower power LED strip rigs rather than larger colas. As I said before, if they made a 3-row strip, I'd buy it in a heartbeat over any efficiency in a shallower field of light.... Unless I was running smaller plants, which is part of the next experiment. I will be running 6 smaller plants in a 2x4 under 300W. that is 37.5W/square foot. Harvest day is supposed to be on Monday, but I suspect I will be pushing it out to 60 days, as I have never had this level of plant health so late in the grow on this strain.
