DIY with Quantum Boards

I have a closet I use just for pollination, but I mostly hand pollinate. I collect pollen with cotton swabs and store them in freezer bags with a desiccant pack. When applying, spray all plants not to be pollinated with water thoroughly. I cover the plant after pollination with a whit garbage bag till the next day spray the other plants again before you uncover, then spray the pollinated plant also to kill stray pollen.

Tomatoes I do in a greenhouse to avoid open pollination from my raised bed plants

Do you have to hand pollinate inside? I’ve always been outside to fruit but plan on keeping a cherry and an heirloom indoors this year. Pretty sure one of my heirlooms that I save seed on that I call Space Tomato crossed with something else last year as it is growing a lot differently then the others. Can’t wait to see what it puts out. So far it is a little more compact and not as stretchy as the other Space Tomatoes. Bushy as hell too.

Your not talking about collecting tomato pollen are you?

There are two different types of HLG drivers. Constant current and constant voltage + constant current drivers. The C-series (240h-c2100a for example) are constant current. 240h-54A is a constant voltage + constant current driver.

A CC driver maintains a constant current and allows the voltage to fluctuate. This driver tends to be better suited for wiring boards or strips in series, and adjusting the pot will adjust the amount of current being output.

A CV + CC driver will output a constant voltage and the current can fluctuate depending on what the light wants at that voltage (need to look at the IV or current-voltage curve for that particular light). If the driver current output is maxed out, then it will function as a CC driver. Since a CV + CC driver outputs a constant voltage, you want to wire your boards in parallel. The CV + CC driver comes with two pots, one controlling the voltage and one the current. Dimming the lights effectively isn’t as simple as just fiddling with the pots though.

I recommend checking out LEDgardener’s YouTube video series on the HLG drivers. He covers pretty much everything you need to know about either driver type.

Thank you Jay! I watched the videos again remembering the difference between CC & CC refreshed my brain, I had a momentary lapse of intelligence already forgetting what little I learned since it took so long to get heat sinks. Do you think running 3 boards at 80watts or 2 boards at 120watts gets me the most efficient light? Until I can get enough QB to replace my 600 watt DE hps I am going to run it with my hps on a mover lighting a 4x4 flowering area but want to expand to 4x6...

Rakin: looking good, excellent idea using the peg board!! These QBs are super light I never considered any other options, stuck in the HPS hanger mode...
Thank you. That pegboard was there when I bought the house. 12” hangers were cheap. I have them attached with 22ga jumper wire because I have a 500’ roll. Cool thing is I can move and slant the boards around anyway I want them.

Thought I would tell you guys something that was kinda funny ........

Went fishing this last weekend with my gear - proudly displaying my HLG stickers and some guy noticed it and said : " Quantums ? " .... It took me a second to process that and said : " Yep .... All Day long ! " ... *smirk

Quantums bring good karma ..... Lol

Sweet. I’m afraid to display mine being I’m in a non friendly state. So many people see the vegetable plants that grow like trees out of 5gal buckets and already think I’m up to something just because they don’t understand how I’m doing it.
Just go buy those garden patch signs : " I love tomatoes " or some shit like that .
Have some pepper plants out as you use a rain can , nod politely at their nosy ass " Mrs. Cravitz " ( some of you will know who that is ) and put out the " home Gardener " vibe .
Plant some god damn petunias under their Nazi noses .

Just keep your ZIG ZAG T-shirt in the dresser

Peace ..... :peace:bongsmilie

and its a Shelter logic thats translucent, you can't see through it yet I've the best grows in of any greenhouse I've had. Something to be said for diffusion!
I'd love to set up a greenhouse for some outdoor, but even though I'm a legit medical patient in a legal state, I tend to worry about that. Don't want nosy neighbors getting suspicious about the smell!
