Hey everyone!

I know you US guys have this awesome Unseals. Where I am from we can't get them. I think it has to do with some trademark bull shit. Anyways here we have PVC fittings like this ones =

Do you US/EU guys have this? and do they work on round buckets? i need fittings for my pips that works for rounded buckets. To make my RDWC, the last attempt did not go so well.

Thanks in advance.

best regards.

I'm a big fan of bulkhead fittings. I found I did not need anything bigger than 1" diameter, which made them a lot cheaper for me.

There's a HD link to some barbed fittings in my Leaking Uniseal thread a few threads up, [page9, post#162]...(Although a small uniseal in a HD bucket might be just fine, I've never tried it so I can't say)

I guess I don't need to explain why I would suggest you buy bulkheads over uniseals. ;-):bigjoint:

Ttystick - I found my 1" causing me some problems with water levelling (but I'm running my pump inline at the bottom.) I will be switching it to inside the res and building a manifold soon.

The smaller the bulkhead, the easier it will fit to the rounded bucket.

how to you connect them? do you just screw tubing on or something?
The tube slides right over it, somewhat firmly. Then you use a metal clamp.

I have more than one outlet from each tubsite, this to reduce chances of roots clogging them all.

ahh now i think i get it, you put in a bulkhead then you screw on the
PVC Barb x FPT Insert Female Adapter, then attached hose with a hose-clamp?

You might find this strange but here in Sweden, you can buy them but mostly only from Aquarium shops from that i have seen so far. Am still not use to the concept since i have not seen them or ever used them. But it looks amazingly simple on youtube.

I use 2" bulkheads, and they're rock solid. And they really weren't all that expensive on Amazon. I paid a total of about $25 on five of them, which for 2" bulkheads is really reasonable.

When getting the bulkheads, make sure you know which style you want (threaded or slip). If you plan on using poly tubing, you want to get "threaded" so you can screw barbed adapters in. If using PVC pipe, which you'd probably want to use if going past an inch, you'll want "slip" bulkheads so you can cement/glue the PVC pipes to the bulkheads.

Bigger pipes means better flow, and less chance of roots clogging the pipes/tubes. 2" is very reasonably reasonably priced with the smaller diameter pipes and bulkheads. Going past 2" starts getting pretty pricey.

Why? Uniseals doesnt hold pressure? Leak problems?

Thanks in advance!
Most people don't install uniseals correctly and they get a bad name because of it. Most issues occur when people don't pre-soak uniseals or taper PVC ends before ramming them through. Accurate pre-drilling with the correct bit is a must as well.

I haven't used them, but I know that the ends of the PVC pipes need to be beveled to be able to pass through the uniseals properly. Bulkheads are really easy to work with, and easily unscrew when breaking down the dwc for maintenance.

The bulkheads easily support the weight of the pipes with water in them, which can get pretty heavy.
