Picked this up yesterday trying to figure out if it is a 1000 watt hood. There are no markings on it. Besides sun system. Inside socket, 5KV - 600V - 1500W

hoods have no reason to be electrically rated as they are not electrical components

socket says 600V/1500W so it can handle any HPS on the market

Does it have a actual electric plug or just a wire to plug into a ballast? Some of them have built in ballast around 250w. Take a picture of the wire end and other side of reflector might be able to tell you better.

I thought the same thing. A picture of the inside should show that it is a Dual End type of fixture without a ballast.

ive got a bunch of those from the 90s. they are decent but no match for todays computer-designed reflectors. Good for free but prob not worth paying for

make sure to adjust the height of the bulb using the slots on the socket mounting flange so it is centered in your fixture. obviously 400W MH and 1000W HPS bulbs are totally different shapes/lengths
