Ok , so i made my own Rubbermaid grow box with 4 CFL's , 2 internal fans , 1 intake fan and 1 exaughst fan.

Temps rage from 75-85 , 90 on rare occasions.

So i ordered 10 White Widdow seeds , throw them under 2 moist paper towels , 3 days later - Tap root - yaaay.

So i throw my seeds 1/2 an inch under the soil and mist the surface of the soil heavily.

1 week later , no plant. I dig up the seed to see that the tap root is shriveled and dying. Ok , no problem - this is my first time.

Search a little and realize that misting is not enough so water my soil heavily under the tap and let it drain for 10 mins, switch of my exaughst fan to maintin more humidity. Germinate 2 more - and yaaay tap root again.

Throw them 1/2 an inch under the soil and .. guess what... no plant. Dig them up to realize they are shriveled and dying. De ja vou ?

Im now down to my last 2 seeds and i cant afford to fuck up further. I have YET to see any leaves emerge from the surface of my soil. In fact i have yet to see any LIFE in my soil after planting my seed.

Soil:

60% Potting Soil
10% Sand for water retention.
15% Perlite for water drainage and aeration.
5% Pre-mix 15-15-15 for some natural nutes that arnt in the potting soil.

Soil PH , is around 7 most of the time dropping to 6.7 - still within acceptable ranges.

A seed for your thoughts ?

you're watering throughout the week, right? you probably are, i'm just making sure. you dont by any chance have any pics of the shriveled taproot do you? is it black or white? how long is it?

i dont need to bcuz my soil retains water quite well , i made sure of it because i tend to go out alot. My hydrometer says the soil is moist at root level. But i do mist the surface of the soil once in a few days.

Ill try and get one , its still white but shrivlered and sticking to the seed

sounds like it might be normal and you're just digging them up too early. from my experience a dead taproot is black. in this stage i don't think its possible to over saturate the soil so that may be something to take in consideration as well. i'd try again and give it at least 2 weeks before you go digging them up.

I couldnt agree more with freddy...your giving up to early man... mine sometimes take a week or more to sprout...simetimes 2 days... it all depends... freddy said it all...too early.....good luck with your last 2 seeds .....

Sounds to me like you may have drown the tap root. It's very easy to do with seeds / sprouts... in fact I think it's the most common problem people run into when first growing.

You may want to try using Peat Pellets or a soilless starter plug instead of going straight to dirt. I use the soilless starter plugs... they are sponge like and I soak them in PH correct water and then squeeze the excess water out of them. They retain enough moisture that I don't have to use ANY water for at least 10 days.

Once the seeds sprout I do spray the leaves with with water daily as the root hasn't developed enough to take in water so they take it in through the leaves. I don't actually water the starter plug for about 10 days.

The plants don't get transplanted to a container until the starter plug has a bunch of roots coming out the sides and bottom of the starter plug. Works like a charm every time :)
