@dopeonarope a mate gave me an old blurple LED fitting that I’m going to retro fit some new LED’s into. It’s about 300mmx250mm and I’ll be putting new cooling fans in aswell what would be a good fit strips or cobs ? I want as much light as I can get from it not concerned about efficiency as much as output
veg light?
If cobs, vero 29s (70v) pump out a tonne of light. Are you going to replace drivers or try and use whats there already? that might dictate whether you need to stick with 36v cobs or 70v. Strips are also a good option for that footprint as you could could fit 6 pretty neatly. If you can cool it well (1 fan per cob would be needed if you want to drive them harder) you could jam 6 vero 29s on there depending on how big your fans are and whether you can fit the same number as cobs on that footprint.
Other option which would probably give you better coverage overall (and would also need less thermal management fuckery) would be the samsung F series strips. You could fit 6 of the short ones on the existing sink with just a little breathing room around each strip and just have the top of the case open and a normal circulation fan blowing over it when its in use. If you wanted to drive them harder than is efficient then you'd want fans to vent the sink (unless you had a decent surface area on your heatsinks then a circulation fan would prob be fine anyway).
I'd prob go strips to be honest - it will be bright as shit and there's less worry of things like fans failing. The short f-series are 279 mm long and 40mm wide so they'd be close to a perfect fit if you used 6
