Hey everyone,
Brand spanking new round here. Been digging through tonnes of old threads on here that I've found from google. Was wondering if anyone could help me out before I spend my money?
I was going to run 12 Cree CXB3590's @ 3000k on a MW-HLG-600H-36B with passive heat sinks. I'm going to be in a 1.5m by 1.5m space, so that is 2.25sqm or just over 24sqft. I cannot for the life of me work out wheter or not this provides adequate lighting - having used a calculation I found on the forum and using a .jar file calculator I got a variety of different PPFD and PPF ranges, some adequate some not.

I am looking to spend no more then say $800 / £600 and this looked about right (from kingbrite.cn [? not sure if reputable]). I am sorry to ask for help on my first post but I've been reading and watching videos solid for about two days, and would love to get started in building a fixture. I am open to the idea of quantum boards but I must confess I have only scratched the surface and feel there is even more to learn there.

Your help is very much appreciated, thank you.

That will do just fine. Also, Jerry from kingbrite is indeed a reputable source. Shipping just sucks.

Thank you for your quick response and thanks once more for verifying the vendor, I seem to have contacted Vivi liu, I wonder if you would know what kinda of PPFD I can expect?

thats what most people come up with when searching older threads

crees were popular a few years back but they got passed by every other manufacturer (cizen, luminus, bridgelux, etc) on a cost efficiency basis

Very true. We've all used CREE CXBs don't get me wrong, but is there a reason you want them still? If you're focused on COBs I'd honestly reccomend Vero's. Surprisingly, DigiKey has them cheaper than anywhere else I can find. Certainly RapidLED .

25 watts per square foot. A little less than recommended but workable. I would do two HLG-480's with 6 COB's each and get it above 35 watts per square foot. You can always dim down from max power, but you can't dim UP.

Right ok, this should just be a case of finding a more up to date and efficient COB, any you may recommend before I go digging. I did watch a video by MIGRO actually you just reminded me.

Yeh there is no particular reason other then 'CXB3590' being burned into my retina from reading it so many times. I mean I guess a COB / Quantum board would be ideal but thats going to end up costing even more right? I think I may build a COB rig initially and seeing how I get on, maybe add a few boards?

Right ok thanks for the sound advice, I can reduce my power to suit sure, so by running two drivers I would bring up my wattage subsequently bringing up my PPFD levels?

Thank you all so far.

Yeh uk
I haven't taken a look at strips whatsoever just yet. Ill look on ledgardener.
9 COB's would offer me even less coverage then 12, and without even searching it up, can they be that much more effective that I could drop 3? How about if I got 2 drivers running 6 luminius cxm22
Mean Well HLG-480H-C1400 x 2 with 6 luminius. Why cxm22 over cxb3590's ? I notice the cxm's come with a cri 80 instead of a cri 90?

pm'ed you. cxb 3950 are ok but twice the cost and less efficient than cxm22. vero 29C @ 100w is another option.

2x 480h drivers would fry your plants unless you turn them down but than its point less. 600h or 3x 240h would be better.

Cxm22 come in 90cri also.

Yeah man, CXB is just not worth the cost anymore. I'd use 6 of the 36V vero29s on 2 HLG 320-1400s each. 50w ec COB/600w.
