These guys have signed up for long contracts, up to 5 years. Many of them have Master's degrees, decades of service and training, etc. It's happening across all military branches.
The excuse is that there's been a breakdown of management and so the government can't process their clearances- so they're just getting kicked out.
I see something far more sinister- and in keeping with the current regime's desire to undermine democratic institutions and accumulate power;
They're getting rid of experienced NCO personnel in order to create a more pliable force, one that won't balk at following blatantly unconstitutional orders and acting directly against American citizens. Some examples of this have already happened- see how civilians were treated by military personnel during the Katrina crisis in New Orleans.
I'd dismiss this as paranoid in normal times. These are anything but normal times; America is in the throes of a Fascist Collapse of our Democratic system and an outright implosion of the underlying traditions and culture that have ensured that our system of respecting the Constitutional Rights of our citizens continues in spite of an occasional knucklehead in office.
Sadly, that no longer describes the political system in place today. The Patriot Act AND its reauthorization were passed by a majority of both sides of the aisle. That's just the tip of the iceberg. The recent SCOTUS ruling absolving police of almost all culpability for outright murder of civilians in the line of 'duty' is another stark and relevant example. Again, there are many, many more.
Same with the recent outrageously large 'defense' budget. The lack of questioning of historically large 'defense' contacts, while simultaneously praying that there is no money for social maintenance and welfare programs. Again, there are many more examples.
It is no longer enough to just occasionally show up at the ballot box; it's time to get involved and loudly voice our requirement that our government respect our constitutional rights and principles- that's all of them all the time, not just whichever ones they feel like on a given day- and stand in solidarity against the increasingly blatant fascist takeover of our Federal government. If we don't, we can reasonably expect that it will no longer be our government but will instead be an oppressive force without precedent in human history.
If you want to disagree, I invite you to bring refuting evidence. We must set aside our differences and debate this honestly.
The future shape of our nation and our place in it depends on our active participation.
