On Oct. 29, 2004, just four days before the U.S. presidential election, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin-Laden released a videotape denouncing George W. Bush. Some Bush supporters quickly spun the diatribe as Osamas endorsement of John Kerry. But behind the walls of the CIA, analysts had concluded the opposite: that bin-Laden was trying to help Bush gain a second term.

I'm afraid Al Qaeda will try to pull something like this again. Obama is fairly well-liked in the Islamic world, and it's in Al Qaeda's interests to pump up anti-American sentiment in the middle east. Right now, the most anti-American clerics in that area don't believe that an Obama presidency is possible; they are sure McCain will be elected. If these clerics are proven wrong, and Obama is elected, this could discredit them among Muslims.
If Osama bin Laden releases another tape late this month, you'll know why.
