You can generally keep the light at about 4ft then drop it every few days once they start to develop leafs. You won't burn them to easy with 300w led unless you have it like an inch over them

Thank christ for that as i was going mad researching cfl light holders with plugs on, reflectors and what k and wattage bulbs to run for seedlings, was goin mad haha. I'll do as you say Emeraldbuds and have it as high as it goes and have them out of the hotspot below.
As you mention they're pretty weak and my research since buying indicates i should have spent more wisely. These cob lights seem the business and the diy kits are interesting. Seeing as how i have the light i have I've decided to just buy another vip 300 so i have one over each plant once they're established. Hopefully the extra juice will encourage em along!
After work i checked both seeds and neither show any signs of a root. Early days yet at 24hrs??
My 11litre smart pots hadn't arrived so this delay is welcome perhaps. Fecking seller never put my pm id on the package
Sorted now thankfully and should be in the locker in the am.Being reading up on these german made rkv fans. Deffo buying one as my kenley one is sh1te. Its no where near dynamically balanced and wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. I see you have to wire a plug and lead on them, how many amps do ye fuse it for, 13 i guess? Plan is pair it up to a variispeed plug in fan speed controller for a tenner online. That ok?
Unrealted but i was driving home thinking about this little venture. The risks v rewards, the learning curve, the obvious skill and enjoyment alot of ye show in growing these from a couple mm seed into mature plants etc and the absolute ridiculousness of not being legally allowed do this struck me. Hopefully Eire cops the fook on and Leo gets his shit together lol.

Well, ideally you want a CFL for seedlings, Metal Halide for veg and HPS for flower. If your thinking about buying a new light get a 400w or 600w HPS kit. You can veg under the viper and flower under the HPS. I had a mars hydro which was pretty decent for vegging the plants but not worth a shite when it came to flower.
I’d usually check the paper towels after 48hrs. Make sure to keep it damp but not wet and in the dark. Should see tap root soon enough

For the RVK I used 2 core 6A flex cable with 3A plug. It only uses 2 contacts for the wiring.
Yeah I have one those variispeed controllers and it works grand with the RVK

Ok so right tool for the job then. Can i ask the wattage of the mars you had? Is it a case theyre weak or is it that they're just not good at it, like not having the correct light frequency for floweing, par etc? I'll ditch the idea of an additional vipar if thats the case.
Would you run a 400 or 600 hps kit for two plants in an 80cm sq tent thats 160 high? Guessing heats gonna be more an issue...
Any complete kits on ebay you'd recommend for under 100 quid?

The Mars 2 1200w. It’s the type of bulbs the cheap led makers use there not worth a shit. If you went out a built a custom light using Cree COBs then thats a different story but as far as the cheap led goes there not worth your time flowering with. That’s from my experiences with the lights. If you search for growmau5 on YouTube he explains everything.
Yeah I’d prob run 400 in that tent. It depends on how warm the exterior room is and if you have the right intake and extraction setup. If everthings right you could go with a 600 but as it’s your first time I’d stick with 400.

Super info man thanks, i will look up growmau5. Will deffo gets a hps kit for flowering so.
The temp of the room the tent will be in is a steady 17ish c, it's pretty stable but not heated.
My vent will go out a window 2m away and theres plenty air, it's a big old block garage. I hear what your saying about temps though.
This rkv 4 inch fan runs at 175 m3 per hour at max seeminglt. My vent window is a 90 degree turn and 2m away and my inlet is passive. Running it say at 75% would she pump 100m3.... must read more.

I would go with a 6 inch fan that way you can lower the speed and it would be quiter then. I would recommend you get the hps kit rather then another viper but if you do end up getting another viper i have one thats barely used ill sell you for 40 quid but id defo go for the hps

Spud thanks a mill for the advice, what watt is the vipar can i ask? Do you have a parcel motel account? I could use it perhaps for making a stronger veg.
Im reading online for recommendations for a half decent 400w hps full kit from ebay. Are those omegas any use? Seems to be cheap enough. Should i buy a spare bulb also, do they burn out and do i go full spectrum or is there one specific to flowering? That would be best I'm thinking.
I'll price the 6 inch fan, would like the whole thing stealthy.

I do mate i dont use it though i use address pal. Its the 300 watt same as yours. Theyre decent in veg but useless in flower.
The omegas are good i have a 600 watt and it hasnt given me any bother in 2 years. Doesnt hurt to have a spare bulb but you want to change the bulb every couple of grows. Hps is what you use in fliwer and MH is what you use in veg. The dual spectrum ones you can use in both veg and flkwer but it will stretch your plants if used in veg.
If your wanting very quiet then i would splash out for a Variac speed controller off amazon. The cheap controllers make the fan buzz so its a bit loud. I have 2 Rvk fans on one variac speed controller and can barely hear it in the next room

Well I’m am on my first grow so only learning, but am watching lots of videos and reading loads to try educate myself
I started from seed about 5 weeks ago, the seeds I got were cheese from Buddha seeds in the uk
My plan is to grow them in my 4x4 tent under my t5 until there big enough and then I’m going to put them into my 8x4 tent under my two 630 CMH lights
I have loads of questions but the first one is is it ok to use water straight out of the tap at this stage without setting the PH

I didn’t think I needed to to ph the water until there were about two go into flower
I bought a ph tester the other day but don’t know how to use it yet lol
Iv given them 3 feeds so far...
The first two were half strength and the third one yesterday was full strength...

Always ph dude. I dont think its as important in soil as it would be in coco or hydro but id still always ph to be on the safe side.
Yeah them nutes are fine. Get yourself a TDS metre aswell it will help you determine how strong your nutrient mixture is. Then when you have a few grows under your belt youll be able to tell by looking at the plants if your feeding too much or too little

Its pretty much the same to grow from seed then it is to grow from clone. Clone would actually be a bit harder difficulty wise

Decided to have a go at a third in the tent, its germinating and will try it in an airpot.
Ended up using plagron growmix. Meant to be pre fertilised for 3 wks.
My temp is 22 ish and humidity is 60.
Any advise on watering at this point?
I have the light on continuously. This a good or a bad idea for an auto?

Looking good so far. Soil looks a bit too wet so just let it dry some before watering again. People do have the light on constantly but i like to have some darkness
