Maybe someone will correct me here, but I'm pretty sure you can't keep cuttings in the fridge and expect them to be alive months later. That's just not how it works.

By "cuttings", I thought he meant the leaves which were cut off during harvest... but you could be onto something, maybe the thread author meant "clone cuttings". If thats the case, then no, you can't store em. You'll have to root them immediately.

I haven't tried it yet. Probably should.

(though don't think the 'dried' post pertains. Don't think they should be dried)

ok, i still went along with this cutting thing' any way even with the lack of info i got.,
but this is what i did was got afew cuttings and put in a tupperware box and stuck em in the fridge.
and the 2nd experiment was just to see what happens ,so i filled a plastic bottle with water and put 2 cuttings in screwed the cap a lil and stuck it the freezer , and thats that

The freezer will definitely ruin your clone cuttings.

I have trouble keeping celery fresh for more than a week.

I'm still very dubious but please let us know how it works for you.

That's for sure. The water will expand as it feezes and the ice crystals will rupture the plant cells.

You can store cuttings for a few weeks in the fridge, 'Man. Maybe four to five weeks with this method but that's about it. Try different variations of this method too, maybe you'll be able to increase your storage time: Wrap cuttings in damp paper towels(loosely), then into plastic bags or tupperware, give fresh air to paper towels every day or two, maybe change the paper towel every week or two. Good luck

the cuttings can just stay in the refrigerator in total darkness and it doesn't bug them out? or turn them hermie?

I ain't a botanist but I assume the low temps and little light (I assume you will still get into your fridge) suppresses the plants metabolism to a very slow progression. Kind of like when a person goes under in very cold water and is able to be revived way past the normal time that brain damage/death would of occurred.
Now if you freeze them, water expands when it freezes and would rupture the plants cell membranes and that will kill it. When it gets above freezing, not only would it be dead due to the cells being ripped apart, I think it would be a little on the mushy side.

Its a bad idea. Presumably you want to save your genetics while you shut your grow operation down for a year. You would have better luck rooting them and keeping them alive. You can slow the plants matabolizm in any stage of life. The key being that they need to stay alive. Find a place to stash them, you can hide them outside in the summer. Or at a friends. You could make a tiny grow room with one of those 16w LED grow lights and a cardboard box. That could be hidden in a place that would be impossible to really grow any crop.

why would you store cuttings? shouldn't you grow cuttings? Or cut them when you want to grow them so you don't have to store them? If you can store cuttings in the fridge significantly longer than you can store them in a cup of water then......... i dunno... give me some weed. Clearly I'm not against it, I'd like your weed, I just don't understand why.

when molecules get cold they get close together. think of it like people or animals. when its hot out, no one wants to be overlapping on eachother, but when temps get cooler we want to huddle together for more heat. its the same for molecules as well. maybe we ARE just another form of molecules perceiving a different space
