That's a common myth about THC leaking down the stems to the buds. The THC is in the tiny resin glands on the buds called the trichomes. To get more of that is in the flowering stage and dependent on how you grow your plants,I just cut my plant today and instead of hanging them to dry I left them on the branch and put them in brown paper bags upside down, thinking they still need to be on the stems to collect all the thc still in them, was this a mistake? Should I have just cut them off the stems and put them in the bag?
I crop mine in stages. When I decide the topmost colas are ripe I chop the biggest and best taking about a third of the plant off a bit at a time. I only snip enough that will take me an hour to process and I do all the trimming so the buds are finished other than the slo-dry and cure steps. Big colas get cut into pieces from the bottom up so all the bud pieces are snipped of any leaf bits and nothing but finished buds are left. These go into bags for slo-drying for at least 10 days before going into cans or jars for burping for another month.
You might think that there's no way you can wait so long but once you have a few crops under your belt buds seem to stack up behind you and before you know it you have way more left over than you can smoke. That's when you start to really see/taste the difference between the usual process and the slower one when it comes to bud quality.
You can always air-dry some sugar trim and smoke on that to keep temptation away while you wait on the buds to cure. Gonna have the same buzz but not be so smooth. Whatever floats yer boat!
If you just want to make shatter out of your pot then just trim off anything that doesn't have sugar on it and dry it all in a slow oven at 150 degrees. A day later you can process it all for resin. It will make better shatter that way but the bud will be super harsh for smoking.
I'm not a cash cropper and the only person I have to satisfy is me! Everyone who gets to taste my buds seems to agree that it works but most of them are stoners so might have some bias. Regardless, my 50 years of messing with pot tells me it's pretty much worth the time and effort to put in the time and effort to get a better product.
I never won no cups so maybe I'm just blowing smoke up my own kilt but I don't think so.
Disclaimer: I never entered no cup contests either.
