Expanding. Going from LED to hps

This is my 3rd run. My goal is to get at least a pound every month. I’m in the market for a 4 x 8 or (2) 4x4 tent and planning to put about 8 5gallon smart pots with coco loco soil mix. I’ve only grown in 2.5 x 2.5 with Chinese leds. Ive been reading up on hps and it seems like it’s the most efficient way to get what I want. I’ve read that I would need 2 600w hps for that space is this true? I don’t know much about them. How much more in electricity would I be paying? How hard is the set up. Where can I shop for one? Recommendations? Also my place gets really hot in the summer. Really cold in the winter. Does it need venting/cooling? I sometimes run into heating issues in the summer. Is 1 pound even possible with this set up? Thanks

If you are not in the market for DIY I would recommend the HLG 550 for your 4x4, this would save you money on cooling in summer, that can be used to control humidity or whatever instead.
In winter a few small incandescent bulbs on the floor can push up the temp above them during lights on for very little extra power.

Ideally, you want to start at the thermal isolation of your room or tent. A few bucks spend isolating the roof and sealing any leaks can save tonnes in cooling or heating costs if you want to do climate control.

My recommendation is tick by with what you have until you can build an insulated SEALED room with AC/humidity control and CO2.
That CO2 element and a sealed room takes a shitload of guessing out of growing large amounts every time... I am currently paying the price for not listening to my own advice on this and will maybe have a quarter the yield I had with nearly everything else staying the same from last grow. It means no stupid ducting, just a backdraft valve jobby. You can buy smaller air filter as you will be circulating the stinky stuff over and over rather than once on the way out of the room... etc etc... Get the CO2....

Is this a joke thread?

1. A 600w per 4x4 is fine.
2. A pound per 4x4 is easy.
3. Yes you need to vent, lots of extraction, get that heat out of the house completely.
4. Go air cooled hoods if you struggle in summer.
5. Look on your electricity bill where it says unit price per kilowatt hour, multiply that by 1.2 and then by how many hours a day your running your lights = cost of running lights.
6. You can buy them anywhere. High street or amazon.

If you cant do point 3 properly then don't bother even trying to run 1200+ watts of anything unless you have super AC.

The room I’m moving the grow to is a lot easier to cool then the den I had the 2.5 x 2.5 in. Not a joke thread lol it’s just I’ve only ran Chinese LEDs in the small tent and got about 6 to 7 oz. I have no knowledge of any other lights. Wanted a minimum of a pound a month that’s why I was thinking 8x4 wit 2 600 based on a bit a of research. Thanks for the info tho.

You think I’d get similar results with that led?

Get the hps, you wont be sorry as long as you cool it properly. Personally I'd put 2x 1000 watt hps in that 8x4 an call it a day. I dont like 600 watt hps... that's where I started because people on this forum preach about them all day long.. but you'll get bigger buds an better results with the 1kw bulbs very very easily.

And honestly who cares about another 60$ on the power bill when your yielding 50% more.

No worries. We get a lot of HPS LED arguments and threads designed to wind up one side or the other. Your post had a few familiar signs. So appoligies if your genuine. We all started somewhere with little to no knowledge and i wouldnt want to be they guy who knocks anyone for lack of experience.

If you want a pound a month, i assume you want to have a perpetual set up and will then need a veg space. Its easier to try and pull that every 5 weeks. Since most strains take longer than 8 weeks despite what the breeders say .

If you can't pull 2 pounds from a 4x8 with 1200 watts, then you suck at life.

Thousands require a lot more cooling. 600s are more efficient.

I mean, your not wrong. Here's the thing tho, a 8 inch fan will easily cool 2x 1000 watt hps in that 4x8, no problem at all. If your starting getting new hoods a 6 inch hood costs the same as a 8 inch hood. An the 8 inch fan vs a 6 inch fan are also pretty close. The differance in power draw is minimal. Imo it's way easier to get better results with a 1kw hps..
When I first started out I got myself 5 or 6 600 watt hps because I listened to people here, and just like your saying now, they all said a 600 was more "efficient" well I can tell you straight up that a 1kw gives bigger buds and more weight. The buds look better. I dont personally care about "efficiency" when it mean only 20 or 30 bucks per month on a power bill and I'm yielding a lot more ounces. I dont play the gpw game. But everyone has diff goals ya know.

Btw...

@Kingrow1
Fact is burple lights will always beat hps. Facts and science.

"How much more in electricity would I be paying? "

Compared to what? Nobody here knows what your rate is, nor did you mention the wattage of the blurple you're currently using.

This is just one of many reasons why I no longer help noobs.
You’re an arrogant prick. I bet setting up grow tents is the only thing you’re (probably not even) good at. I bet while you were learning things in your formative years, your teachers made you feel like a retard for not knowing what you hadn’t yet learned. And you probably have no friends. I bet your whole house is neglected and filthy and you don’t brush your teeth correctly. But you think you’re smarter than everyone else.

By the way the movie character on your avatar photo is the biggest pussy in the history of martial arts films. Clown

We’re learning. I’m sure you came out the womb knowing how to build fucking lightbulbs and grow a pound a week.

I bet you got a tiny little pecker no ones ever touched but you and your uncle too.

Go practice your manners before someone else makes you feel like the little bitch you are.

I agree with all of this.
