First off, the typical 6 inch inline 400 cfm fan only draws about 35 to 50 watts, not 200.

That said, a 50 watt fan running wide open 24/7 will cost about $3.95 per month on average across most of the lower 48 states.

The fan and filter are much larger than they need to be. I'm not over emphasizing the cost of running it .. I'm using that energy in other places.

In comparison to this mystical fan you speak of, mine uses 165 watts less. With that savings I can power 9 18" Sunblaster LEDs. I could light a 2x2 area with 165 watts. Just some examples.. not overemphasizing.. being smart.. this is 2018..

You should consider upgrading your fan if it consumes more than 200 watts of energy ..

I have a couple of fan speed controllers and they work ok except they make that fan howl noise. I think it is because of how they interrupt power instead of control power.

In my big tent i just run the vortex full speed. It is a heat issue and it is not as efficient capturing odor because the air is changing out too fast.

In my small tent i run a variac and it is the cat's ass all around. A 100 dollar fan speed controller that controls the voltage (and power to the fan). I love it. I learned it here too.
