600w HPS for 2x4x5 tent?

I'm a new grower so I'm not super knowledgeable about it. I thought about running outdoor air through my light but it gets way too cold up here in the winter and there's likely to be condensation inside the light hood.
I also mentioned to someone awhile back about venting through carbon filter into my room (like you mentioned) and they said it would work but to be careful about humidity building up in the room. Then the humid air would be passively pulled into the tent. Just thought I'd mention that as it was told to me by someone on the forum
Thanks for the honesty. So do i understand it right? U hav a y goin out, then two fans pulling out with 2 separate ductings, one going to ur hood and just pulling thru the other side of the hood open. And the other ducting going to ur carbon filter. Both 4". THANKS!

lol did you just quote yourself, and invite yourself to give yourself more advice?

my fan pulls about 4-500cfm and is a 6''. I got it on amazon for like 50. Yeah it cools my 800w 4x4 really well, I have a few other fans in the tent as well.
Actually I was talkin to u. Oops OMG Me and my girl almost just died laughin when i read this to her.... hats off to u my friend

hahaha I thought seeing the self quote was pretty funny. I knew what you meant, just giving you grief :) If you have a good enough extract fan, and some openings in your tent, you dont even need an intake fan. I gotta get my ass to bed like 20 minutes ago but I will be around more tomorrow and can answer any questions you got, that I am qualified to answer.

make sure you got a cool tube/air cooled hood. get a fan that can pull 4-500, and usually ones that size, you can adjust how much your actually sucking out. Make the investment (50-60) bucks into a decent extract fan and you will save money having to find all kinds of ways to suppliment an air intake.

Yep I have both going to a Y that goes to a duct going outside. It's a 6" Y (6" on one end - and 6" and 4" on other end). I have a 6" fan on low speed pulling through light to the Y and a 4" fan that capn be pullingt hrough my carbon scrubber to the Y. Also have a cheap 4" damper for when the carbon filter isn't running...the 6" fan won't back up into the 4" line. Hope that makes sense. Lol
It's overkill but it works.

When the 6" fan is running it is going to the Y connector and out the window vent I have set up. But if the 4" fan isn't running (and the 6" was running)....then I thought that there would be a possibility that some of the air going to the Y connector could make its way down the 4" ducting back into the tent via the carbon filter. So the damper closes the 4" ducting when not in use and only opens when air is coming from the 4". Kinda works like a dryer vent on the side of your house. When the dryer runs...it opens the flap to let air out. When dryer stops...it closes via gravity so cold air can't come from outside into your dryer. It's a cheap part....think I paid $4 for it

My setup is like this
6" Ducting from room air > light hood > 6" fan > 6" ducting > Y connector > outside vent
Also:
4" carbon filter > 4" fan > 4" ducting > damper > Y connector > outside vent
(Carbon filter and 4" fan are inside tent)

Oh ok.. i forgot thats what a damper was...i got u..whered u put the damper..right at the y? Also, ur air to the hood is actually from the room direct and not the tent right? If so do u feel like ur wastin alot on heat or ac blowing all that out all the time?

Yeah the air to the light hood is from the room around the tent. It's in a spare basement room so it's not used other than for growing. It's summer so it's not being heated and it's always cool down there so a/c isn't being used.

Oh nice.. Its sounds good...and like u, i worry (now since u said somthn) about getting condensation in my hood. But the room im growin in is a bedroom, and it will have the same ac n heat as the rest of the house...i wonder how much id b wasting puttin air out at that rate? Thanks

Im not tryin to ask too much from u...but rather than me runnin all my ideas by u, wld u mind just telling me the best way to vent... im n maryland (cold winters n hot summers). Thanks man. Im not wastin ur time..btw...u sound like u kno wat ur tlkn bout...and im sure im probably gonna do wat u recommend, THANKS AGAIN!!!

does your tent have to be in a closet or anything, or can it just be in the room? If so, and your room is generally about as cool as you say it is, we're pretty much in an identical situation, except im in tent ina closet, so my temps maaaay be a few above yours but your set up even better than I. I would find something like the Vivosun 6" 390cfm fan, or something similar, on amazon. get that, some 6" ducting, and if you need it (I've never found it necessary until mid flower, but others may need it sooner) get a 6'' carbon filter. some 6" ring clamps to hold it all together. Should work out just dandy. I run my fan on the lowest setting and it pulls really well. That fan or a similair one will be good for the 600, and probably so even if you upgrade. Then hang your light, your fan, and vent the two together out of the tent in as straight of a path as you can. each kink and bend will add a bit more resistance.

Thanks man. It is n a room, no closet. I get most of wat ur layin down. But, r u venting outside or just into the room? And r u sayin carbon filter (when needed)>ligh hood> fan> ducting> outside? One six inch run the whole way? Or y connector?

so you will have [carbon filter]======[air cooled hood]======[Fan blowing -> way]====== outside the tent. So its all connected ina single path. at least thats how I do it, and its one of many many ways you can do this. If your room is that cool, you wont raise ambient room temps much at all. especially if theres an AC vent going into your room, or a window unit, or whatever. I'd get 2 or 3 6'' ducts, the flexible kind. they are the easiest to use but are a pain once you cut them.

Really?! I thought for sure id have to at least exhaust outside..my orig thought was pullin n from outdoors thru th light n back outdoors. And a separate fan pullin thru the filter and out th top into the room. And an open vent to let air enter passively. Really?! Not doubting that ur doin it, just n disbelief... if i can do that im so happy!!!

U kno how someone says somthn, that changes the way ur thinking? Now im thinkin about the fact that the tents n my house. And my house has central ac. Which is a sytem to cool and cycle air. Im not puttin out any harmful exhaust. Y shldnt my house b capable of cycling this air? So long as it isnt ridiculously hot. But i feel like im high, well i kno im high, and maybe im oversimplifying this n my mindstate, and forgetting like 10 things. But it seems as tho thats more or less wat ur doing and it wrks fine...and now im gonna go back to staring at the ceiling and thinkin.. Thanks so much...if u think of anything else bout ur setup that might help me...plz lemme kno..peace

yup, you just want to get the air out of your tent. Then your house should be able to do most of the work. Thats how it happens here.

Oh, also you're gonna want a few fans in your tent to move air around. Either a couple smaller clip ons, or I strapped a big box fan to the very top of my tent, and it blows air all around. it provides enough air movement throughout the whole tent where I don't need more than the one. Its above my light so it basically gets deflected down the sides into the bottom.
