Ok explain this. Why is the light I made brighter next to a Mars II 900 and 1600?

So you need to listen to what I'm trying to get across to you. Dod ypu even see my video of me smashing the Mars II 900?

Yes my lights are better than the Mars pro series. They block me on other forums from posting the truth. Enjoy your easy bake oven grow light. You don't even know but I had 2 300w, 2 1600w, 1 900w and 1 1200w Mars panels so you need to fucking listen to what I'm trying to tell you about those lights. I don't own a led company so why would I have to lie to you?

@fatneal you are diond exactly what I did defending Mars. I understand what you are going through but just wait until the light fails. I'll be here when you need me to help you through the let down from Mars.
listen i trust what you guys are saying...i know the lights i use arent the best and i believe that some of you had poor customer service from sara and the rest of the mars reps...all im saying is the lights do produce for me and many others and are priced better than most lights on the market. of course when im ready to invest in this business again all the info ive learned over the last year will come into play but as for now its not a necessity. i make good money, my setup is easy to manage, and my power bill is low...i have no complaints

If you like LEDs that are less efficient and shittier than HPS and CMH, then sure, you shouldnt have complaints.

Your power bill is the same as anyone on HPS watt for watt. 400w of MarsHydro LED? Same output (if not less) than 400w of Eye Hortilux HPS and less than 315w of CMH.

But go in, continue on in denial.

I am no taking EITHER side here, but Realstyles, I am sure you know why they're "brighter".
They're brighter because a) the CREE (Or Vario, whatever) COB chips are more efficient and yield more lm/W and b) they're brighter because the COBs are white and contain the entire spectrum, including green. And green (or a white light for that matter) is "brighter" than the same Watts LED, say in Blue or Red. But "bright" (or Lumens for that matter) is not really an accurate measurement how good a light is.
("Bright" depends also on the light's color, is entirely subjective, it's how we perceive a light's brightness, nothing more, nothing less)
So if you compare your Mars II/Pro with a COB that way it's a rather unrealistic way to judge which light is actually "better". As said no reason to take EITHER side here and I now also have my CREE COB based light built as we speak, but if we compare we should do it right. Ultimately, since most of us likely don't have instruments for measuring PAR or whatever I think yield and how plants grow should be deciding.

Mars sucks very poor lighting and I do have a PAR meter and a lux meter. I've grown under Mars and there is a major difference. You'll see once you grow with that cob light that's being built and yes we can compare the lights. I'm just 1 guy not a company lol and my lights are better.

Nobody worth a damn is comparing the lumens of COB vs Mars.
PAR measurements have been done countless times already and Cree/Vero COB lightning are a full class if not 2 above Mars lighting.

You're fucking naive if you think people haven't compared the PAR readings already.

Someone cranky today? I am not arguing this, if you read my post (and everyone else who knows a bit about LEDs will agree) I say that CREE COBs are more efficient and ultimately "better", I mean just looking at the specs shows you that. There is a reason I am switching from MH to CREE CXB3590 COBs :)
I didn't say that no-one used accurate measurements with PAR readings, but the avg person ("most of us") probably doesn't have a PAR meter.
Just saying that a comparison of two lights and saying "one is brighter" is not really a good way to judge a light, this is not better than looking at alibaba/ebay/MH/WhateverHydro advertisements and looking at lumens and decide what light "is better", based on lumens. I am sure you and most here who know about LEDs know all this.

Now, as to the original post from Realstyles, I can NOT judge whether the Mars 2 is really worse/better just because RS says the DIY is "brighter". The MH may well be worse, no question and likely also IS. (But just from seeing that one is "brighter" doesn't really mean a lot, whether a user says this or a company uses lumens in their ads. If that were so we'd all chose our lights based on lumens :) )

Highest and best use for Mars and others may be blurple disco lighting. Do you not realize that the regulars here have left a trail of discarded or unused light along the way? Plenty of Mars, vipar, Apollo, and other Light Brights.

I thought the famous dumpster-MarsII video was a classic! Realstyles was one of the biggest MarsII fans around. And abrasive as hell, but soon began to learn of cobs and the potential they had and is now showing others to even make their own lights. Commercial light makers present on RIU also help all who just ask.

Might not hurt to tag along here and learn what is really real.

Smokesara works for Mars and her or maybe their job is to put out Mars propaganda. Mars can at anytime decide to make a first rate product. They choose to make second rate or worse while taking people's money. Money which could have gone to buying or building a cob based light.

Mars can at anytime decide to make a first rate product.
MarsHydro made a "Pro" model which is spec'ed at 47w/sq ft. The non-"Pro" Mars2 is spec'ed at 28w/sq ft.

If you guys keep asking for a better better light they'll make a "VIP" model spec'ed at 70w/sq ft (to be replaced by the "Hall of Fame" at 90w/sq ft.).

It just goes to show that they're selling discounted watts. Doubling the watts is the "Pro" package. You're not adding coverage or efficiency. You're just doubling the watts delivered to the same square foot.

References:
I chose the first product in each category:
Mars2 400: 177w, covers 2.5x2.5 (6.25 sq ft @ 28w/sq ft).
Mars Pro Epistar-160: 375w, covers 2x4 (8sq ft @ 47w/sq ft).

I'm hacking my mars , I grew a very good product with my mars better than in my G/H in the summer G/H's are touchy to get right over a inside grow
but my mars buds were as sticky & hard as any SFBay Area top shelf stuff
my LSD buds are to die for . special occasion stuff
but here i am moving to cobs as I did feel the light could be way better with cobs over that pink lite shit

I'm moving to CXB in 4 weeks when this girl finishes.

She's still going strong under the mars. Added in some CFLs to put me at 55w per sqft. Can't complain about it too much, I'll throw the mars into the veg room when im done with it.0103161121.jpg

This is a brand new strain, so I have no idea how it would grow or look.

It's cherry kush and blue dream. It has a very nice sweet aroma to it. Looking forward to the end result.

PSA: BEWARE JUNK PARTS & POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

I know this is an old post but I would like to leave a comment as I have been growing for 4 years and 3 of them using many different lights including Mars-Hydro. Of the Mars-Hydro lights I have, I own 2 400, 1 900, and 1 1200 Mars II lights.

These and I assume all of there lights are very cheaply built the problem is not just with the drivers, that is just one of the many problems, most all of the parts are cheap the fans, drivers, heat sinks are not good enough to keep the diodes from burning up. The drivers are maybe the worst part, you say to replace them with Meanwell drivers but if you have ever opened up these lights you will see they use 7-8 drivers on a 900-1200 light! thats insane and not the correct way to wire a light.

Next is the price and there so called amazing 3 year warranty, the lights are very expensive for what they are, when you price out the cheap Chinese drivers and fans they use these lights are not of expensive build quality yet a 900 goes for close to $350 and a 1200 for $450 thats insane! Also they have poor customer service and after the first year you have to pay for the parts and/or delivery.. I just got a quote from them for $60 for 2 drivers on my 900... $60 for two $5 drivers?? Insane.

Do these lights work... Yes.. Are they worth the downtime you will have with them and the back and forth with there poor costumer service, absolutely not. You will constantly be replacing parts drivers, fans, diodes. On top of it all the lights are insanely heavy, don't use that much less power then a HPS or run much cooler then a properly vented HPS light.

I feel you, same diode failures happened to my Mars junk.
I didn't bother with customer service, I just trashed everything except case.
The case is the only salvage-able part IMO.

Yup, you live you learn. When I first started growing I thought they were great. Then you really learn about lighting and start taking apart there lights to fix all there failed parts. I have pretty much had it with them when they just quoted me $60 for two of there divers! ..these drivers are so cheap and can't cost more then $5 this is also on top of just sending it out to fix the burnt up diodes that took about 3 weeks to fix. I have replaced fans, multiple drivers, diodes. When you open up one of there bigger lights like a 900 or 1200 they use the same drivers as the 400 they just use 7-8 drivers... 7-8 cheap tiny drivers is not the way to power your bigger lights.. should be one quality driver in series.

Honestly I could go on and on about these lights and what I have learned from owning them for 3+ years. Just because you can grow some pretty good weed with a light does not make it a quality product. I can and have done it with lots of other lights with better results and far less down time and expense. I would almost suggest any light company over Mars, they are selling you lemons then double or triple charging you for the parts when it comes time to fix them. I think mine are getting fixed and going on eBay.
