Is this a good carbon scrubber? Around how much do these usually cost? And how can i take this out to make a airvent for the hot air to exit through?
Depends on the size of the filter as to the price. Where did you get that filter has it been used? Wheres the white pre filter? As for the outlet are you planning on capping the wires and drilling through to the outside? You want to vent out the higher as bugs an possible water entry from lower levels.

This filter i got for free when i bought a lot of growing supplies. Yea it has the white prefilter i just took it off so y'all could see the inside of the filter. And it looks like its filled with a bunch of silcon packets or something lol and the outlet was a ceiling light that i took off and am looking to turn that into the exit for the hot air.

I think what you have there is a filter not yet been filled with carbon and presume the packets inside are to stop it rusting before it got sent for filling.

You can see through it if you enlarge the image.

Edit, or your you who can actually see it in person! doh

Had to google that term . Yeah the silica gel packs used in new shoes ect. To keep moisture at bay I think.

The outer frame isn't even tight with the rim either so I guess it never got filled but made it through the quality control somehow.
Its all good no one knows everything. If you did then life would suck.

I asked the seller what the packets are and he said they're filled with carbon never used and should be good for 1-2 years

Well the seller is full of it. That filter should be packed tightly with carbon. Those packets are not going to do a damn thing. The air will just go around them. It's not even worth the time hooking that empty metal shell up. It won't do a damn thing. Who did you get it from?

Well yes you will need to fill it with activated charcoal lol.

What do the packs say on them? I can vaguely see they have writing. I'm on my phone so it's hard to tell.

What's the brand? Looks almost like it's a refillable filter or a factory defect. I'd have to agree with Xtsho. Even if those packs were filled with carbon they wouldn't do a damn thing.

For the record, most carbon filters don't last a year let alone two.

Not according to the seller.

Unbelievable. I'd ask for my money back.
He did get it as a freebie but I'd start questioning the stuff I bought at this point. Seems like a pretty uninformed seller.

Well ya but really what is a scrubber? It’s a can with holes in it that allow the air to travel over the charcoal, I agree that it’s not pretty and has a shit load of something in it lol. But I would try it, but I’m cheap as chips too lol.

Surprisingly the ones I have are three or four years old constant use and still work fine. Certain brands and sizes last different intervals.
@xtsho your right the ones that aren’t packed from have far too many air pockets and don’t filter properly. You need a shaker table to properly pack them.
