Starting first grow

Hi, so I’m very new to growing. This will be my first grow. It just became legal in my state medically, so I thought I would take advantage of it. I have just purchased a small set up. I was wondering if somebody experienced can tell me what they think about it/ if I’m missing any equipment. I was going to grow 4 plants to start out. I was thinking about doing veg for about 8 weeks and Flower for another 8-10 weeks.

Materials:
-48”x48”x80” grow tent (Apollo Horticulture)
-Growers Choice 1000W Grow Light HPS Complete Fixture 120V/240V Commercial Quality
-Small Dehumidifier for 1200 cu ft (150 sq ft)
- Farm Fox nutes. Big bloom, grow big, tiger bloom
-instecho Digital PH Meter, 0.01 Resolution Pocket Size Water Quality Tester with ATC 0-14 pH Measurement
-AcuRite 00613 Humidity Monitor with Indoor Thermometer, Digital Hygrometer and Humidity Gauge Indicator
-iPower 6 Inch 442 CFM Inline Fan Carbon Filter Combo with Variable Speed Controller 8 Feet Rope Hanger for Grow Tent Ventilation.
-iPower 4 Inch 8 Feet Non-Insulated Flex Air Aluminum Ducting Dryer Vent Hose HVAC Ventilation, 2 Clamps included
-2 clip fans.

I am basically just waiting on the seeds and materials to get in. I was thinking about using co2 in the tent. I’ve read tons and tons of threads on co2 and tents, but I hear that it’s pointless because the tent need to be sealed off completely. I was possibly thinking about putting co2 in there at certain times of the day and not having it run 24/7 (or when there is light on) since it needs to be ventilated so I don’t suffocate the plants and kill them (from what I understand from previous posts). I’m very anxious and excited to start the grow and just want to know what you think and throw recommendations on how I should go about it. I was thinking about maybe adding a small humidifier in there as well. Am I heading in the right direction? Any opinions from people who know what they are talking about would be MUCH appreciated.

:leaf::leaf:WELCOME TO RIU :leaf::leaf:

is the hood vented:confused:

are u going to grow in buckets & soil or coco
As far as I can see, it does not look like the hood is vented. In the description of the light, it doesn’t say that it’s vented. Which would you suggest for a new grower? Coco or soil? I hear coco is good, but can get expensive. Not sure if they meant for larger ops or not.

I will definitely get some within the next couple days! I appreciate the info. I have no heard of the grow boss, but I know what I’ll be watching tomorrow! Lol do you think the light I got will be good for that tent? As far as for heat, since it’s not vented? I figured I should get 1000watt hps since I would try to use co2. I will prob get a little light for a temporary veg until the hps gets here.

lol the grow boss helps new growers live on utube @ 10 am every week-end (sat & sundays).
New growers can email pics to [email protected] & call him live on skype during the webcast.

1000hps are not meant for tents, they are for big plants in open spaces so can u turn light down to 750W during flowering?
Also i commend u for doing ur homework & getting a smaller light for veg is very clever but dont get to small of a light so in a 4 x 4 space 300-400W hps veg & 600-750W flower :peace:

  • “Ultra high output with dimming option at 600w,750,1000, and 1100w.”
  • That is what it says in description, so I’ll turn it down to 750. And thanks! I’ve been kinda stresssing about this for the last couple weeks trying to figure everything out. I figure if I get a big enough light, it’ll come in handy if I up my tent size/ add more plants. It kinda sucks looking on amazon for a light because some people are like oh this light (for veg) is so crappy, blah blah blah. Do you think the 1k hps light I have for Flower will be good? Also, which veg light would you recommend? (As far as brand). I’ve already spent close to 800-1000$ on this. Kinda don’t wanna go over $1,000. At least for my first grow. And as for the grow boss, what time zone is that? And lastly... what are your thoughts about co2? I’ve read that I’ll waste a lot of co2 in a tent, but I hear that it give a WAY better yield. Opinions?

Save money & use 1000W HPS for veg & flower. 600W with light raised to top of tent for veg & 750W for flower in 4 x 4.

1000W & 1100W will flower a 5 x 5. Also a 2nd 400W hps veg light is only good if u have 2 tents.

Grow boss has a hydro shop in henderson Las Vegas & will be live streaming today but in the afternoon.
Shop webpage>>>> http://www.thegrowboss.com/home.html

Forget CO2 cuz u already have alot going & it will only add up to 25% more yield if everything else goes right but vent in fresh air.
CO2 works best in sealed air-conditioned rooms.

Once I transport the germinated seeds to dirt, how close should the light be to them? Do you think just having the light at the top at 600watts would be good until it’s flower time?
