I usually pull out the medium and am left with dry roots, it's a royal pain in the ass to pull all of them out. Does anyone else have a different easier way of cleaning these fuckers?
Good call! Washed them in my washer last round and plugged up the drain.
I smack them around to get rid of as much debris as I can, hose them out, let them dry, and smack them around some more. They don't have to be thoroughly washed out. You're filling them with dirt anyway.I usually pull out the medium and am left with dry roots, it's a royal pain in the ass to pull all of them out. Yep, already did all that. They were outdoors and some got a little mold on em. I'm going to be using them inside this winter and wanted to make sure they were 100% clean.I smack them around to get rid of as much debris as I can, hose them out, let them dry, and smack them around some more. I wouldn't use your washing machine but just soak them in a sterilization solution.Yep, already did all that. They were outdoors and some got a little mold on em. I'm going to be using them inside this winter and wanted to make sure they were 100% clean.
I beat all the dirt out then toss them in the washer. Every so many grows. Other than that I dump them and knock all the dirt out.Yep, already did all that. I've never used the washing machine. I was going to one time but the girl caught me and said no.I beat all the dirt out then toss them in the washer. Every so many grows. Other than that I dump them and knock all the dirt out.

Sadly she has horribly expensive taste lol the one she want is some sort of pricy lol more than these Electrolux ones we have. Oh well she lets me get what I want for my rooms lol.I've never used the washing machine. I was going to one time but the girl caught me and said no.

i take the fuckers to the laundrymat, stuff them into one of the industrial machines, pay for super wash, hot water, and they come out looking pretty good. i just throw them in a basket wet and let them dry at home, fold em up and use em again when i need them.FML when you got 20 or 30 10gallon pots to do. I switched to hard wall air pots.
But this is my method
Remove medium, let dry.
Take outside, n rub the fabric together on its self, this will break up all the roots.
Then I put into a tub , with borax , bleach n dish soap. I hand wash, then rinse n repeat, till cleanish, then they go into a washing machine, then air dry n vacuum packed till there next round.
It gets old fast.
Hydrogen peroxide and OxyClean ain't sterilizing anything. Clean? Maybe. 1:100 Bleach:water. That does sterilize.I wouldn't use your washing machine but just soak them in a sterilization solution.
"One common way to sterilize a Smart Pot is to put it in the washing machine with a sterilization solution. It is important to choose a sterilization solution that is capable of killing bacteria. Hydrogen peroxide, OxyClean, or a bleach solution all have the capability to sterilize a fabric planting container. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after the sterilization process to ensure all residuals from the sterilization agent are removed."
"Gardeners who experience excess salt build up on their fabric containers can rectify the problem with a vinegar water solution. Salt encrusted Smart Pots can be soaked in a vinegar water solution which will break up the salt and remove it from the fabric. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after this process as well."

hydrogen peroxide sterilizes just as well as bleach. they're both strong oxidozers, and work the same way. bleach is usually stronger, unless you have 30% + peroxide (which i do)Hydrogen peroxide and OxyClean ain't sterilizing anything. Clean? Maybe. 1:100 Bleach:water. That does sterilize.
