Some Interesting Thoughts to Ponder

its easy enough to say that "any argument based on saying that we are supposed to be a melting pot is retarded."

But why TBT why?
Chuck, if you aren't going to bother quoting the entirety of what I said, stop wasting everyone's time.

Objections, based on the fact that we are supposed to be a melting pot are retarded. How are we supposed to be a melting pot, if instead of ensuring that everyone assimilates into our culture they remain separate?

Perhaps, you've never seen what happens after a soup goes cold, it separates out into layers, where as when the soup is heated it all becomes a relatively homogeneous mass with all parts included.

Instead of ensuring Unity, you are ensuring division. Divisions that politicians usually take advantage of to create voting "blocs" for their own gain.

When I vist other countries I don't expect people to speak English so I would hope the same of people that visit my country. I honestly do not care what language people speak, that is their business. Its the people that refuse to attempt to learn English that get on my nerves. 90% of this country speaks English, actually I think its a little higher but I do not have recent figures.

I take it you haven't been in the southwest lately, especially the LA area.

that old school history it has now pretty much accepted knowledge they rode ice flows from erope long before the land bridge thing
Actually... that's not quite accurate, either. Genetically the first to people the New World (as all three Americas are known) appear to be Asian. But there may have been a circuitous route taken, and it's now thought that many in South America may have been ocean-going peoples from the Oceania region.

Also, the dates for the peopling of the Americas are being pushed very far back, by thousands of years. And now we may have the poop to prove it. :D

And the issue isn't, what was here first, the issue is, why do we bend over backwards to accommodate people who have such a disrespect for our nation that they are not willing to learn the common language.
You know, every time I buy something there are instructions in Spanish on the back. It seems that when it comes to making a buck most companies sure don't mind putting stuff in Spanish. But you know, a large portion if not most of the people that come here *DO* learn English, it just takes time, kind of like how you were saying that you would learn Italian or Mandarin, it might take a little more than a couple weeks don't you think? I have heard that it can take years to learn a language.

I don't really think there is as much melting going on in this pot as we tend to think. Forcing everyone to speak the same language or hell the hell out doesn't do much to unify a damn thing, this also would alienate. Fact is that languages have to change (evolve if you will) or they go pretty much extinct. Plus, how can it really hurt to know another language? I mean really. How does it pain you SO much that we should get the government involved in what language people speak?

Well whether you disagree on the melting pot now days or not is irrelevant it was at one time a melting pot.The ellis island days, everyone had to learn a little of every language to know whether you were getting a good deal or fucked.Plus if a person hiring wasnt a english speaker or a good one at least you really didnt know what you were in for.It all boils down to its america now and most of us came from other backgrounds, cultures and countries.Im cajun decent as well as irish. The cajuns werent allowed to speak there own language in school or they were punished severely back in the carpet bag days. Now its very hard to find un adulterated forms of the old language!!!!

I had a feeling about you, Mr. Hydro, especially when you offered up that one chicken recipe (the one that asked for "two joints worth of sugar", remember that one?). My dad always says he has a thing for the black-haired, green-eyed Cajun queen. Then he married a Puerto Rican.

I did one better Med...I'm married to a Puerto Rican woman.
My god man, I think I should give you more slack. I knew you were dealing with a real tough woman, but through in the Puerto Rican blood, whooee. You have my sympathies. No wonder she can't let my annoyance go. Is she a witch? Does she have a Med doll she sticks pins into? I keep getting these new pains and can't figure out where they come from.
