Rapid led 3 cree cob kit

I thought about going with timber because you can space it out better but it costs more....because you can space it out more... I haven't had much play with cobs yet but I would definitely like space these out more then 6in apart on a 20 in heatsink.

This was mearly me sticking my toe in the water. Like sixstring said im addicted now lol
 
I'm considering either adding another row of 4 in the center, or scaling back to 6x3 and repositioning all of the lights. And yeah diy builds are addictive. I've considered adding 4 of the 4' bridgelux strings to it instead of more cobs... But I love the cobs. The possibilities are endless!
 
For my next project I'm fairly certain I will go with a different k of light... get everything from 2000k-6 lol maybe switch up the brand with each spectrum

I don't feel I could suggest where you should go next because your already ahead of me mang lol

It's been over 24 hours and everything looks good sooo I don't think I messed up lol

On a side note... I got a 100w no name driver of amazon ( 28-36v 3000ma )for like 10$... comes with a no name brand 100w led cob.

The review on the cob was poo but everyone liked the driver and for 10$ I said why not. Also got a " 100w" heatsink...idk how to tell on that though lol any one got any tips on sizing up heat sinks?

Any who gnna play with that tmrw will post pics for no other reason than I can.

Welly well well... 10$ for a 100w led and driver and 10$ for the heatsink (pre tapped all over the place)... no name of amazon I'd post links but they are gone apparently. Waiting on a reply if they are re stocking

HS also came with a big bag of screws ( which can thread into the rapid leds side covers better than the ones that came with it but I still am not using them ) and that nifty fogged splash gard

Took forever to soder mainly bc idk wtf I'm doing lol but it's dam bright. Blinded myself twice by looking at it while plugging it in.. wanna ditch the led for like 2 50w vero or something later.

Time to end my frustration filled day with some good weed and a good shit

idk if it's me or what I mean I know I don't know how to soder I get the gist but I've never done it. Regardless of my skills though I had 1 guy who does telecom shit take a crack at it and he couldnt get the soder to stick to the cob and another who does plumbing try and he got the soder to stick to the cob but couldn't soder the wire to it.

Anyone have suggestions?

And I haven't seen the fan in the 3 cob kit move in days... I'll re check the connections I guess :???: :dunce:

Did you use flux?
 
Yea I used Flux, soder ment for circuit board from radio shack and I " pre tinned" the pad and wires... I put that in quotes because I don't fully understand it lol but both of them told me to do it and I took it as pre heated it

Good post. So I was looking to get in on a diy kit and for the money, these rapid kits are a good deal. Also, now I know how it all works. You kinda gotta just get in there and do it, and it is pretty easy. Easier than I thought. I second guessed myself for awhile, so this kit that came with all needed was reassuring. I like the heat sinks too. They are one long unit. They come with endcaps but I left em both open, and let my fans duct hose butt itself RIGHT up on the open end of light, and it air cools just like as a hps aircool tube works!
It is so cool now, my plants literally can lean up to the led glass. The cheap fan that you have to cut the plug on burned out in like 2 days. It seemed hella sketchy to me too so I really like the air cool idea. I hooked up the light bar in tent, and ran the power source remotely. Keeps ALL heat from out your tent. I really like these kits, given the little modifications I spoke of.

Find telecom guys and plumbers that know how to solder! ;)

Tinning is basically pre-coating the parts with solder. A clean, tinned tip is needed for good heat transfer.

It sounds like insufficient heat, what size soldering iron?
