Open Show & Tell 2018

Still going strong!! Took one down a couple days ago. 24kt gold is finally getting some color to it. Honey bananas will be going long into November. And the chocolope is getting there but not yet done with what it can do. Mid Michigan here pushing strong!! Have a dank day!!bongsmilie

I've got an experiment going right now. I'm seeing if the Kratky method of hydroponics, that'd be non-recirculating and non-aerated, is viable for cannabis. So far, my results indicate that it is indeed viable insofar as my late seed starts are concerned...can't say how it would work for a full season plant, will have to run another test next year.

I've never heard of the Kratky method, but it sounds like Drain-To-Waste.

I did a poor job describing what Kratky is, but it's not drain to waste.

Think dwc with no aeration and rather than topping off the reservoir, you let the level drop as the plant consumes water and nutrient. Oxygen for the roots is the big concern, that's where the descending water level comes into play...as the water level drops, the roots will chase the water, but there are still roots occupying the humid area above the water level, these roots uptake oxygen.

It's not a perfect system, but it works and is very low maintenance.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. With all due respect, I think you're missing the point. The method shows that hydroponics can be viable in the absence of power for things like air pumps and water chillers. If you're at all curious, there are a ton of videos on YouTube. Kratky has proven itself to be commercially viable for producing all sorts of greens.

Is it the best way to grow cannabis? Certainly not! But the implications for poor areas without access to electricity to be able to grow their own food, and quickly (lettuce takes ~30 days), to me is anything but ridiculous.

I like to learn new things, try unconventional approaches to conventional activities, such as gardening. That's all this is for me, a fun side project.
