If I was thinking ahead I would have dropped a 5er of oil on the inside of papers.
I was kicking myself after.

I’ll make sure to smoke that out front so the neighbors can see me!

It's how we used to use oil back in the day before dab rigs and shit, you will definitely end up with sticky fingers though.

Well I can only surmise most of us figured out quickly that hot knifing with oil in a piece of tinfoil was nasty. The tinfoil probably is not safe to use with high heat. I do not even use it on the BBQ or in the oven anymore.
 
Is everyone talking about ISO here, Im confused... if so why do you prefer iso to shatter/wax ? Seems like it is the same amount of work for either methods, but shatter is more potent, cleaner, taste better in my experience. Maybe Im doing it wrong

Perhaps I am just not understanding you. I use ISO to make oil, shatter or wax. It had a slightly nicer taste when I used 94% grain alcohol, but that is so expensive, and I have to go to Quebec to buy it.

I just thought oil is usually made with iso and the prefered method is qwiso, then butane for honey oil,shatter wax, then ethanol to make an edible type oil. And then there is solventless like bubblehash and rosin press.

Its hard to keep up with all these extracts. when I was a kid it was just iso which I thought is now not the best, hence Im surprised you cats are doing it. Guess its personal preference, I havent done enough of either to have one, just going by what Ive seen and read.

I’m 40 and I used to get oil from my dad when I was 15 lol. He said iso was used but 25 years ago they definitely didn’t purge all the alcohol out. Nowadays we are more aware and care cuz it’s about HEALTH.
25 Years ago it was about the DOLLAR.
That’s why we purge our shit to the point of maybe having say none to 1% of alcohol which isn’t harmful compared to 25 years ago when there was probably 3-5% or more left in.

As far as making Shatter with iso please elaborate so can make some. I was on the same page to thinking you needed a different extract other than iso!.
Do I just spread my oil thin out on a sheet and then freeze it lol.

I spread my leftover almost finished oil from the Source onto a large silicone mat. Let it dry and razor blade picks it all up easily. You just need to make sure the liquid is spread as thinly as possible. In a few days to a week I can scrape and voila, I have homemade shatter.

I’ve be leaving that extra u talk about in the rice cooker bowl. Then before I do another batch I wash the bowl with iso to get rid of all that hard left overs.:wall:.
Didn’t even think about scraping and saving. I guess that’s what I get for have way to much product. Otherwise I probably would have been more careful to collect as much as possible.

If you finish the evaporation in the rice cooker, start whipping the oil when it starts to make larger, gooey bubbles. Keep whipping it for a while, the longer you whip it the thicker it becomes. We used to do it and call it budder. Can be done with butane or iso.

If you want red oil, put the wash in a pyrex dish and let it evaporate in full sunlight. Strain and wash time are also variables, but the sunlight usually changes the color to red. If u do it outside put a window screen to keep leaves and bugs from getting in the oil.

Shatter you need a vacuum oven or a heat gun.

Some strains of cannabis will make shatter like rosin if pressed at low temp (160°F) but the yield will be lower than if you use normal temps (180-230°F). Dryer cannabis is more likely to give shatter consistency.
