Why aren't my harvested buds smelling much

Hello Folks :peace:

Before harvest my buds stank. Whenever I took them out of the tent to do the housework I had to close windows and doors, as I was quite worried about my neighbours next door and the apartment below, getting a whiff. And it did smell.
Today is day 3 post cropping. I cut them down and removed all leaves. Then I hung them upside down non touching the other. RH was set at 50%. Fan circulating but not directly on. And no light. Temperature 22° c.
BUT my bud no longer smells as pungent as it did before cutting it down?

Thank you

Maybe you harvested a bit early?
I pulled some early outdoors this year and they have little smell till broken up. Wish the weather had cooperated alittle longer

I now cracked open a bud and it sure does smell lovely. Before harvest and out of tent it had a strong smell.

Maybe some time in a jar will help out
I will be putting in jars. I read that it is
Maybe some time in a jar will help out
I hope so. At the same time I am now sampling that bud I broke into.. a tad harsh ATM... But it's only on been day 3 of hanging. And I can say is that it smokes okay. Not dry yet. Few more days, then into jars.

Yep, I usually find that smell intensifies after curing. Just make sure to trim off as much extra leaf from the buds before jarring. It's a bitch trying to do it when the sugar leaf gets crumbly.

Think about it like this: when you smell the aroma in the air, you’re not smelling the bud. You’re technically smelling aromatic molecules that have LEFT the bud. The aromatics are continually produced by the plant and off gas. When you harvest you cause changes in the plant and other molecules breakdown and produce hay, grassy, earthy or more pungent aromas, that cover up the yummy terpene smells. In a dark and/or cold room, certain aromatic compounds will not volatilize, while others will, changing how the room/air smells.

As you dry and cure and the biological processes reach their conclusion, nitrogen based and other volatiles will be mostly gone (if you dried and cured right). You should have a lot of the other terpenes left behind, unless you cooked those off in a hot, fast or forced air dry (and subsequently without a proper cure), or they were not produced in high amounts in your grow.

The cure will allow the inner terpenes to reach the outside layers, and smell true again.

Thank you for the message. And information.
I have trimmed fairly well, incl any sugar leaves poking out.

Curing will always help with smell and taste but genetics also plays a massive role in this area.. poor genetics and even flushing can take flavours away imo..

Thank you for the message. And valid opinion.
I did flush until EC was around .400 and I also gave the plants a shower. When I break open a bud it has a strong smell.
Few more days then bottle them up.
