Should have bought Vero 29's. They are heavy duty COBs. You can put up to 4200mA. CREE's can't handle it.
With the Vero's,, I have no so called "Larf" bud. .
High quality heatsinks is the key to long life.

Lots of videos and instructions online. And there are fixtures too or a single 100 watt cob on a cord.

it doesn't matter what type of led you use they all burn out after usage just like bulbs do, leds are usually rated for 50k running hours like my cree leds are. Yours will die too it will just take time and usage, then you need to buy all new LEDs or learn to solder diodes.

Like I said, it's all how you take care of your LEDs. Heat will ruin your LEDs. Mine never go higher than 110 degrees F. If they last 10 years, great.
I am reaping the rewards from switching as I type this.
If you want your COBs to last, use the 5.88" heat sinks from Heatsink USA.
Your HS is like the "foundation' of a biulding . You can always change your LEDs as the technology gets better, but the HS, you will have forever.

Mine never get hot either,i been running them about 5 years and well that's about how long they will last you running 12-18 hours per day.
LEDs aren't some type of magical light, they burn out just like any other lighting source that's why they have rated hours just like bulbs do.

Maybe your CREE had a "defect" and caused it to burn out?

Doubt it as it worked for 5 years then stopped working, it's one diode out of many but that's how it starts.....you never experienced a burn out before? How many different types of LEDs have you used?

Nope, notta a one. Everything I have build has worked as soon as I plugged it in. Honestly, I haven't had any trouble out of any LED I use. I have QB biulds and COB builds and made 660 Red strips with mids, no problems. I learned how to build them before I started building them.
You should contact CREE and request a replacement. I sure would.

This LED worked for 5 years + then it went out, that's called normal usage....Cree LEDs have a 50,000 hour run time, i most likely have come very close to that or exceeded it as this light was mainly used for veg.
It may be cheaper buying a few bulbs that have 20,000 hour run time, like a CMH bulb or DE bulb has a 20,000 hour run time, once your LED goes out you have to replace the whole thing.

EBAY has 360 diode Q B's for 45.00 each. Don't buy the cheap COBs, they will burn out.
If you run the QB's at under 80 watts, you aren't required to have a heat sink. Technology is moving right along. Vero 29 Gen 7's rule! lol

Just ask Heisen about the COB or CMH. Ask him what his findings were with his testing of the 2.

CMH has a superior spectrum to LEDs i have tested them side by side, the additional UV and IR helps significantly.

Hell, that light has mids only. No wonder 1 blew out. You have to be careful, there are CREE rejects these companies by cheap. Second hand diodes. Yopu need to learn to build your own lights ande toss that pc of crap away. lol

These are good lights, you must be new to the LED scene as area51 LEDs were some of the best on the market until more recently.

Been building my own lights for over 3 years and those kind of lights have too many things can go wrong with them. Honest, learn to build your own lights. You will be glad you did.
You can build a killer light for under 500.00 that will at least do a 4x4 or a little more. 720 watts.
I have 1 light I built that you can put in a 2x4 tent or cover a 5x7 space. 1800 wattts Very useful light.
