you read the news, talk to people, and get an idea that the country is slowly improving, that people aren't a stupid as they used to be...then you come to the realization that it's just as bad as it's ever been. the civil war was fought for many reasons, the abolition of slavery, the right of states to make their own decisions, whether or not a state could decide to secede from the union....
the history books will tell you that the north won the civil war. i'm of the opinion that it's still going on. there are two nations within this nation....people that want to get along with their neighbors, that don't care what color they are, that can work and live next to people from other places, and don't mind, that will try to get to know them, and be known by them, and will try to make them part of the community.
then there are those that don't want anyone different than them around, that are afraid that someone willing to work hard will make them look bad, that don't like other people because they aren't just like themselves....people who are more concerned that they'll lose their guns, that they need to protect themselves from foreign devils, than they are that children will be killed with those guns, while they're going to school, probably by a classmate, or an American white male adult....only a few school shooting have been carried out by women, or minorities .....it's nearly all been kids that have been on medication and driven batshit by their cruel ass classmates, or white adult men, and several of them have been on related medications,mostly SSI's, depression and adhd drugs.
of course, the people who don't want immigrants here won't hear this, because trump has already filled their heads full of hateful bullshit, and there's only so much room in there.......

hence my thread titled 'the cold civil war'..when the confederate flag flies higher than the american flag..you know it to be true..i was traveling in the deep south somewhere and there is this manufacturing type company that has the biggest confederate flag i've ever seen waving higher than the american flag it's right there on the route to/from florida to colorado.

other signs are the stupid bullshit of 'south will rise again'..that shit shouldn't be allowed..it's like nazi's saying 'jews will not replace us'.

same thing.

the confederate flag should be outlawed..it serves no purpose, but to continue the divide.

Humor is often used to help us deal with grief. Humor is also a good weapon against tyranny. Humor is a way to communicate what is absurd about the current situation so that people will stop taking it for granted. There are a lot of good reasons to laugh at the times we live in.

What I think you mean is that some are wrongly saying "we'll look back on all of this as if were necessary and good that we went through it. Like boot camp or "best thing that ever happened to Democrats"". On this, I would agree that, assuming this country's democracy survives Trumpism, we will simply remember it as a tragedy.
