Not so bad for me. 3 12s Monday thru Wednesday 5pm to 5am. Next week mon thru thur. 3 on 4 off. 4 on 3 off. The 12 hour part does blow thoughI have worked shift work.
The worst was working during the day to get shit done so I could return at night to test the shit I did in the day.
I had a customer ask me "When do you sleep?" "Between blinks" was my reply.
8:00 to 5:00 then return and do 11:00 to 7:00. <-- Did that for 20+ years. Even pulled several 24 hour shifts along the way.
It helps if you like what you do.
Before my current job I did kitchen work. First shift dishwasher and 2nd shift cook 18 hours a day 5 days a week, 8 hour swing shifts 2 days a week. Ran off about 4 hours of sleep a day and a bowl between shifts. Did that for about 2 years before I said Fuck it. Quit both those job. Did 8 weeks of physical therapy to take care of my blown out knees and bulging disc in my back. My feet still ain't right after all those hours in the dish pit.I used to work 3rd shift in my 20s at a Chicago Boutique hotel that catered mainly to a gay clientele. It was a trip. I really liked it because I could check in most guests, do my auditing and other duties during the first 3 hours, then have the last 5 to myself. I would use the time to get high, study science and philosophy, have my gf stop by to fuck in the bathroom, etc.. I got a lot done. I was trying to work my way up quick at my day job, a commodities trading gig so I could make enough money to quit the hotel. After my Sunday night hotel gig, I would go straight to the Monday morning Chicago Mercantile Exchange to run orders into the pits. By the time I got to bed Monday nights I'd be like 36-40 hours without sleep, so I got kinda punchy Monday afternoons. That's when I discovered the wonderful world of cocaine, but I digress. I moved up at the CME quick, so I only needed that night job for another six months. So, the moral is don't be a pussy. Work hard and find a better job
when i was working the third shift i got a tip about sleeping: sleeping in four hour increments. i would try to sleep from 8am until 12pm, be up for the hours in between, then try to go back to sleep at about 7:30pm in order to wake up at 10:30pm to leave for work that starts at 11pm. good luck man, it does suck, but let it be a pathway to a shift more to your liking.Anyone else work the graveyard shift?
I keep trying make time to get things done and end up sleeping through the day
