I can't find anything about this

I do have some microbes from my home made compost in there. I really wanted to get a probiotic garden like on the earth box website. With em1 and gro-kashi but they don't ship to Canada. I think I might grab some compost from my back yard tomorrow if it isn't frozen solid yet and just top dress a bit. I have been in contact with a few people here in Canada that sell similar product to em1 and gro-kashi so they will be coming soon. I really think it's a pH problem locking out the magnesium. But the foliar spray has been helping.

I mean get some microbes in there like alot like getting some worm casting and a little molasess and brew a tea and grow microbes and add that to help break down all that meal stuff.

Microbes regulate the ph right on the root surface so I dont think you have a ph problem if you have a healthy microbe population. read my other post on what I said I would add. it sounds like you just added what you wanted then put the plant in there and watered it. You need to feed it till its big enough to feed itself. and microbes is key in that scenario

@Bernie420 If I bring in some of my frozen compost and let it thaw out, will the microbes come back to life like in the spring.?
I also have liquid kelp and fish fertilizer. Should I use them as a soil drench or just put them in my res

the thing is... just magnesium doesn't get locked out when your pH is not in the ideal range. there are several other elements that would also be subject to decreased bioavailability. perhaps you're just experiencing some pH swings if the soil is still obtaining its balance.

typically with Mg def. you just see a fading in color and it occurs throughout the entire leaf, not just in defined, selected areas like that that seem to be experiencing necrosis rapidly. For those reasons, i would lean to believe that its not just a Mg thing.

keep an eye on it, and watch the newest growth.

An I will do a earth worm tea. I grew in an earth box out side this last summer and used teas. I wish I still had some stinging nettle left.

I let the soil mature for about 9 weeks before putting it in the earthbox. The only difference was that I top dressed with dolomite lime when I put it in. But I let it sit for close to 3 weeks before planting.

soil drench or a rez i thought you were in soil?

as far as coming back to lif idk I imagine.

if your brewing a tea you can add some kelp and I think the fish could go in there but I do know that you dont want to add a fish product to a hydroponic grow. So actually I wouldnt add any fish to my tea till a little bit before I used it to be safe. Its been a long time since I made a tea. Adding a fish to a hydro ebb and flow setup and it will slime up everything with this scum stuff you dont want to do that.

was there dolomite in the initial mix or is what you have in there only coming from topdress?

It's only the top dress I mixed it in the top couple inches. I then top watered and put some water in my res,let it sit for a couple weeks hoping that it would balance out a bit before I planted. I also did that to make sure there were no dry spots in my earth box.
And the new growth is fine. A nice green colour not too dark and not too light.
She also grew quite a bit after the foliar sprays. It's been 3 days now. And I only mist her like 6 sprays because it's still a small plant. I ve never had a plant do something like that so early. She was only in the box about a week.

Just want to add that foliar spray at a low ppm say around 150-200 for your plants 200-300 for when they are healthy/bigger. The ole' to much of a good thing applies.

Started using Epsom salt foliar 4 days ago. Starting to look better. I took the shower caps off the earth boxes. Hoping to let the surface dry a bit in an attempt to battle fungus gnats. I tried apple cider vinegar and soap in bowl as a trap. Useless. Not a single gnat and they evaporated. I added some nematodes last Friday. But I ordered them from amazon and when they were delivered the mail man put them in my outdoor mail box and it was below freezing. I'm not sure if any lived. But I still have another pack I'm going to use this Friday. I have been researching different ways to combat them. I don't want to use any chemicals. Only natural methods.
What can you guys tell me about using hydrogen peroxide. I've read that it occurs naturally in rain. And it breaks down really fast and adds oxygen to the soil. Will it kill my soil life? Will it affect the nematodes I just added?
Or if it does, should I use the peroxide to kill the gnats and then add my beneficials back in afterwords.
I was thinking slicing some potatoes and laying them on the soil surface to draw the larvae in and then just mist them with 1part hydrogen peroxide to 4 parts water solution. Or should I just drench the soil with the solution.
I've read about using Mosquito bits, as it contains BTI. I've looked for it and no luck. Either they don't carry it in Canada or its out of season.
I've seems like the states has so many more options, or the stuff has different names up here.

Oh and I have yellow sticky traps in there.
And I tried Diamataceous earth, but that was under the shower cap and it turned to a gooey white mess. So I scraped that off and tossed it.
I've also heard that a couple inches of sand would break their cycle because the sand is thick and they can't get down to the soil surface

aint we tired of looking at those damaged leaves yet? Think we can pick them off?

Dont use h2o2 it will kill the soil life.

as far s the yellow sticky traps. I suggest taking it open it up cutting it in half then cut those in half then you have four equal pieces from one trap. Then lay them on top of the soil around the plant sticky side up for better fungus gnat catching capabilities instead of one piece on a stick.

I made this thread on how to get rid of fungus gnats organically (https://www.rollitup.org/t/how-to-contain-kill-fungus-gnats-in-coco-or-soil-organic-methods-only.957016/). Everythings made up of chemicals btw.
Heres the BTi (what moquito dunks are made with) I buy https://www.amazon.com/Ecological-Labs-AEL20036-Mosquito-Treatment/dp/B007UTE55A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1544551014&sr=8-1&keywords=microbe+lift+bti

That's great I just copy and pasted it in my grow journal for easy reference Thanks
And just a question on BTi , mosquito dunks I read up on them and they are supposed to go in water? Or can I crush them up and top dress with it? because its kind of like a puck

Crush it up and throw it in the water. Let it marinate in there for a little bit. Im guessing until it dissolves in the water? Im not sure I never used them to be honest. That liquid I posted a link to is WAY more concentrated than the dunks. Only need like two or 3 drops for an ongoing infestation but if youve got the dunks already why not use them right. In my thread I say to use about 3 methods at once. I used sticky traps, gnatnix (kind of like diatomaceous earth but this gnatnix supposedly works when wet while DE doesnt), and bti. I name a shit ton of methods for killing these bastards in that thread but the trick is to use three or more methods at once.

1. organic stuff needs time to break down. to give in a grow like this is too late.
2. it wasn't mg def, which usually starts as golden-yellow spotting.
3. Epsom dose is more like one half teaspoon per gallon. that's four liters.
4. if that's bugs, you're screwed. best to get rid of them, clean everything thoroughly, and start over. or just move to Colorado and buy what you want.
5. no more guesses please. it's like a disease here.
