All kinds of parts and sub assembly still done apparently. I admit I haven't looked at a list in over a decade. We have had a world car market with parts and assembly all over for many years.
The asian car building started in normal illinois with the mitsubishi eclipse in 1989. Since then many american workers are building the final product of asian cars in other states too.
Around here they make truck bumpers for example. They are shipped to canada where they build the trucks.
