help me choose my light and fan

how so I have a 4x4x8ft tent that I'm wanting to run a 600w MH/HPS OR 630w cmh

what would yall suggest in ventilation for the 2.

wanting to keep a passive intake and will be extracting into my attic so heat shouldn't be an issue

also which would yall suggest in general? I like in oklahoma and have very hot summers so I dont want a 1000w hps light my house on fire in the summer.

also please no LEDs, cant accord them for my 4x4 and tired of looking at them

I would use a combo of online grow room calculator and this chart and then go with which ever is higher plus 20%
Work with worse case scenario temps.

Kind of tough to suggest a good light that's not hid out led, those hid's you mention are going to run way too hot in summer. You can diy a led build for a bit cheaper. You might want to look into a portable ac so you can manage temps, temp and humidity controllers are like 70 for both from Inkbird. A 440 cfm 6" fan with a speed controller should be fine for your 4 x 4.

630 cmh if you can afford a proper one with square wave ballast.
Nothing wrong with going for the HPS+Metal Halide, though I would want a ballast that can run 400w and 600w so I could use a 400mh for veg.

how do the controllers play a role? cant I just set my setting on my dehu and my ac and be good?

You can if you want to put a bunch of equipment in your tent, AC can be pipped in and you have more room for plants. You can also place the sensors for the controllers where you want. Temp sensor at canopy level, not in the light, humidity sensor at plant level.

Not so much really, running equipment on controllers is more efficient for power consumption, and you don't have to worry about temp and humid because it's set and forget.

do yall think 2 400w hid light would get as hot as 1 600w light, figured the 2 400w lights would spread the light out better over my 4x4

Dude,
600 watt HPS is just fine, if working with a sealed air cooled hood. A 1000 will be fine as well in a true 4x4, just as long as you have a proper inline fan long with the filter you'll be fine with temps. Do a simple Google search and run a CFM calculator. What ever CFM result you get, buy a fan slightly larger to make up for the heat. You can also buy a fan controller to slow it down as well if needed. Which I would recommend. It's not hard so dont over think it buddy.

What you need to ask your self, how many you're growing and how long, it's all about light preparation, the style of growing. I've been doing straight HPS grows for many many years either be seed or clone. And I pull alot on each plant. I've found out over time MH isnt needed to have a great harvest and more aless solely marketed from companies.

I use a 150 watt HPS for seed/clone.
Then to 600 watt. CFL grows are a waste of money along with LED. Remember that hot air you're blowing in your attic is humid, so you will need to keep a eye out for mold as well.

In the end, if money is tight, I would go for a 600 watt hps, cool tube set up.
They're cheap and are fine to use in a 4x4, A 6" diameter tube is all you'll need. 8" is over kill unless you run 1000watt.

If need be a nice H.O T5 panel for vegging but to be honest. A 150 watt HPS is cheaper and easier to work with.

as far as how.many, I want to run 4 at a time in DWC setting.

but that what I was looking for. the 600w hps cooltube sound great to me.

I can run ducting through attic to outside from that point

but how do you go about choosing a decent ballast? is quantum series a decent ballast?

I've always used Sunlight Supply Magnetic Ballast, along with their 150watt set up,. Never had issues and they have lasted for many years.

When it comes to ballast's, do some reading and see what suits you best. You're going to get every opinion under the sun.

Digital or Magnetic?
Both have pros and cons,

I have always liked my magnet for a few reasons,

(Pro's for Magnetic)

First and formost, no interference with radio signals and such, they can't disrupt Cell phone calls, Cable TV ect. compared to a Digital. If you live close by other homes or in an Apartment setting these could cause issues (Digital). Possibly having other residents call the cable companies or such complaining about interference.

(Con's for Magnetic)
They cant typically change the power setting for bulb wattage (some do 600/1000) but I think those are your only options which isnt much.

When buying your ballast, look to see if it comes with a connection cord that runs to the ballast to the light. Some do some dont.

But in my opinion, Sunlight Supply is my choice.

I second those hot Oklahoma summers but dont forget about the 90% humidity either lol
