New Build CMH vs HPS

I am doing a new build, when finished it will be 8x11 with a 3x3 closet for extra room for equipment. I have 11 foot ceilings. In the space now I have a 4x8 tent but need more room. So for lighting I a have been super impressed with with my 315cmh quality wise. But that was in 3x3 tent.

Here is the question what would you guys do for 8x11 4000 watts DE HPS or 12 315cmh for a total of 3780. My main concern with 315s is I won’t get enough penetration to fully utilize the area. Also do I have to get a 24k btu mini or could I get by with 18k btu.
Here is some modified Mints (sin city seeds) pics to show the quality I’m getting from the CMH.08E25EB7-E4C0-4FB8-AD58-CDD2D43ECBCC.jpeg

Thanks for the info guys do you have a recommendation on a mini split brand that’s good but not outrageous price? I have a couple de 630s, well had a couple one quit working and I’m really not impressed with the coverage I get from them(might be air cooled reflector). They work but the bulbs are expensive and so far haven’t lasted the way they should. I figure actually building the room and tables will eat up most of my budget so first run I’ll prob just combine what’ve i have so will be 2x600hps, 2x315, and 1 630 de and I have a acde style hood that I don’t have a ballast for, still undecided on what to run in it or to try and trade it out for an se hood and just run another 600hps for relatively low cost.

I would love to go all cmh but I don’t trust any of larger bulbs yet, and I can see how quickly cost is going to add up compared to de hps. 1200 in de hps or 3k+ in cmh. Such a hard decision though because I honestly think that the quality under cmh is worth it if the yields would be comparable.

Why not use both? I love the results of a pair of 600w se hps with a 315 cmh mixed in. Id even go 1 to 1 every 6 feet.

Sorry i have not used double ended. I have low ceilings.
I like your idea could you elaborate more on how you mix yours and what spacing you would use I am thinking of leaving room for a walk way basically because the whole reason I wanted out of the tents was crawling around cramped spaces. Here are some mock ups I been working on this morning as far as table layout. 67E8B152-D198-4032-836C-FA568950A67D.jpeg 2E08DD96-1944-4829-B89F-263574F803F0.jpeg

Very cool. You have a good space to work with.

315’s are specked to be spaced 3’ on center. That equals my experience as in an open space my sun system 315 covers 2.5’ x2.5’ real well. Maybe a bit of leaf leaning at the full 3’.

I think your de idea covers 6’x4’ or more.

If you have height and abailable power i would run a de and a 315 per 6’x 4’. Maybe 5’. I would need to see the reflector footprint.

I only run a small grow. 3 lights in flower max in a 4x8 area.

Maybe someone with larger room experience will chime in that knows more.

Yeah at this moment I have 2x600hps and a 630 de cmh in 4x8x8 tent and a 320 watt quantum board set up(just because temps were low enough in winter to run extra). My best run in the tent was 2x600hps and 2x315 cmh(hung in middle) last winter when temps allowed. My 315s are busy atm or would have swapped them out for the de 630 which I really don’t think is as good as 2x315.

Here is some pics of current run one side of 4x8 is honey trap from sensible it’s on day 30 in pic and the others just went in and are critical kush from Barney’s farm. I really like both these strains.

I have 3 flower rooms that are 7x10 running 6 gavita 1000s in each, just picked up 4 630w cmhs that i havent tried yet. going to try 3 of each in one room next run and then compare to see what direction to go with. tried 315s in the past now i use them in veg...cant compare to 1000de's when your growing 5-6 footers.

4000w of de is not enough for that area, itll work but the magic of de comes from overlap, id go minimal 6000w. email gavita for a free floorplan layout.

Ps: if your water isnt on a meter or you have a water source go with a water source heatpump for your rooms. i run a mcquay and its far cheaper then running splits.

No unmetered water source here but that is really cool idea, if I ever get a place with water source. My issues is I don’t feel comfortable going over 4K watts in flower I don’t have to use the whole room I can make a curtain out of reflectivex, or for that matter walls haven’t went up yet I can make a smaller room. I talked a guy from revolution micro and he said that 6 de were a little overkill but would work, but recommended 6x 630. I am honestly feeling very discouraged atm because I don’t have the balls to run 6k in the flower room. I guess it’s either 8x8 space with 41ks and taller plants, or the whole area with cmh and shorter plants. If you don’t mind me asking what kinda yield could someone pull from a 7x10 with 6 de?

Two CMH 315's will cover an area more evenly then a single 630 cmh...that 630 in the tents center will be intense straight under the bulb , maybe too much in a 4 x 4 or smaller area

Thanks couch lock.and yes I agree with you that two 315s are better than a 630 spread wise not sure about penetration but I’d say still better. And yeah I have a air cooled de 630 in the middle of two 600hps in 4x8 and if plants get too tall they can get too much light. But as long as I don’t over veg I’m fine but 8 ft ceiling in my tent wouldn’t be able able to that with 6 ft I don’t think.

I really just want to build a 3 ft bench along all the walls because I find I can reach things in the back of 3 ft but gets hard at 4 ft. My problem is I look at IG all the time at pro set ups and just wanted to copy that on small scale. I think for my particular needs I should just build a bench all the way around room that will leave me a 2 ft walk way in the middle. Line the bench with 315s and if need to can put up reflective curtains to minimize light loss to the walk way. I figure build the bench tall since I have tall ceilings and can put my resovoir under table.

I bought two of these a few yrs ago, I used to make eliquid and stored a lot of glassware, plastic bottles, PG, VG and liquid nic. The layers of shelving detach too, making cheap little tables to hold decent weight (could probably hold about 100+ lbs on each section). I plan on transitioning them for seedlings, small plants to medium and nutes.

I have similar ones that are bigger 2x8 ft they were from a large chain store going out of business, they actually put and sold garden plants on them out front.
