I made a trip through to check on the straglers today. The ones left when I harvested my fat girls before hurricane Ike hit. They seem to need nutes so I guess I'll hit them once or twice more before starting the molasses. It's wierd going in to check on them with all the others gone. But I guess I won't have to worry about the skunk den. Looks like Wiley E Coyote took care of him.

Please tell mer that is not a baby skunk

Thank you mersaides. So far 2008 has been a success. It's rewarding when all the hard work pays off. I got a little over 16 qt jars packed full with some super sticky skunk. Talking sticky fingers chit fo sho! And those still growing should fill another 4 or so jars. I just had to try some yesterday and must say there's nothing like a buzz from your own grown. Especially when it's done right. It was so intense a couple hits and I was in the no loading zone. Damn, that's nice. Hours later I started to realize how stoned I really was. AAAAHHHhhhhhh... LOL
Good thing I've got it cureing on out. I don't think I'd be able to finish the others if I started getting into it. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzappp

Oh, I don't think that was a baby skunk by the amount of hair but good news is I'm still smelling others around so I'm sure he wasn't alone.

Slab Just got through the journal. I know what its like in hurricane season. I use to live in Houston.

Anyway what strain were you growing. I didnt see it in the journal. The girls look excellent (pre-Ike and current). The current grow loks like it will be fattening up soon too. THat must of been nice to grow by the river but I wouldnt want to carry all that nute in those bottles. Damn that must of been heavy. How far did you have to walk to the plants?

Thanks greenthumb. I'm not usually in hurricane alley. Yes, Carrying in water and nutes did suck. I don't entertain doing that again. I'm getting too old for that. It was about a half mile into that area from my vehicle drop. I packed 8 gallons in per trip. I tried a couple 5 gal buckets per trip but the plastic gallon jugs were more stable (and lighter). During the dry spells I'd have to make 3 runs a day to water everyone. LOL, I'm sure glad they rewarded me for the labor. It was certainly a lot better on the grow by the creek. Only had to carry that about a hundred yards from my deep hole. However, it was through the snakey bottoms and feral hogs. One trip in I walked right through a huge hog wallow that was still stirring when I got to it. Another time I jumped (or they jumped me) 2 big hogs down in there. I started packing my Glock after that encounter.
My strain is just some super fine bagseed I got from a friend of over 40 years. He always has some fine smoke and saves me the seeds. It appears mostly Sativa but I did have a few Indicas show. Maybe I'll try something special some day but I've always seemed to have good results with whatever I germinate. I had some 14 ft tall Acapulco Gold that got ripped back in '78 that I let go to seed. They were just about ready to harvest when they dissappeared. I was gonna harvest the seeds for future grows. I sure do miss that smooth reefer. Anyway, that taught me once and for all that no one knows where slabhead grows. I don't even tell my wife. She actually has no idea, just that I camo up and dissappear for hours at times. Then I come home all covered in ticks, mosquito bites, and sweat. She doesn't ask and I don't tell.

I enjoyed reading about your adventures with snakes and hogs. THose wild pigs can get a little fiesty sometimes. Your froend has some good smoke at least from the looks of your grow. Hope you get some seeds to grow more because it looks fine.

Seeds? I have enough for next year but I'll certainly be checking to see if he has any new ones to recommend.

I thought I'd burp the jars today after 5 days since the last time. I don't sense any excessive moisture and they have about lost the grassy smell so they are going into the remainder of the cure from here. Of course I had to pull a couple of buds for testing purposes. I'll post the results of that later.

Well, all in all a good year even though I would have liked to have given the first run a few more weeks to really load up the trichs. Thanks Ike!!!

Our first frost is usually around mid November so the last girls should be nice and sticky by then. Stay tuned for more of slabhead's late season journal.

wow, I'm honored.

Today I wanted to show "my lil' hash brick" that I made from my trim. I used a few different methods from reading up right here on rollitup.org

I guess the first hash I ever had was back around 1976. We'd take a small piece and spear it over a metal pin and take nose hits off it while it smoldered. Or we would drop a little chunk in an iced down water pipe. It never seemed to be something we would put in joints, just too special I guess. It used to be something that you'd kill for. LOL, still is I guess. Anyway, using two large bags of ice, a couple of 18 gallon plastic tubs, and my leftover trim and some shake I was using for muffins I embarked on my first try at making some.
I mixed the first bag of ice with filtered water until it just barely covered the trim. It was maybe a third of the tub at that point. I started of letting everything soak for awhile to soften up the shake and chill down everything. Next time I won't let the shake get so dry before hashing it out!!!
After about 30 minutes of soaking I started to work it, agitating the trim and stripping the stems through my hands. Now if you've ever done this (and I hadn't) you soon realize that the bare hands are NOT going to work! Can you say frostbite? OuchSo out comes the OL's potato masher and a strong set of assorted kitchen instruments to keep my hands out of that icy broth. By now I'm wishing I had kept the stems out. It was a lot of trouble separating them at this point from the icy soggy trim. Anyway, by now I'm needing the second large bag of ice and all I can salvage from the fridge. Yes, fdd I underestimated my ice needs. After about 30 minutes of vigorously mixing and thrashing the tub I let it settle for another 30 minutes and started then started removing trim.

I got the big stuff by hand, squeezing out as much water as I could from each handful. I then used a basket strainer to catch the rest of the big stuff. I tried to use some of the wifes old pantyhose as a strainer but that was another effort of ill advise. I cut up an old pair and streched them over the wire strainer. It was messy and not much more effective than just using the strainer. I hope she doesn't notice them missing!

So now I'm down to a murky half tub of trichy water. Out comes all of the large glass mixing bowls I can find as I'm gonna use the gravity method of separation. That worked but next time I'll be using some bubble bags I intend to buy. After about 3 hours of settling you can see the heavy trichs falling and collecting in the bottom of each glass bowl. Now the top water was siphoned off of all the bowls. (No, I didn't take pics during the process because I wasn't really sure if it would even work since it was my first time). Being very careful to not get the settled layer I used a turkey baster/syringe thingy to get the water off right down to the sweet stuff. Then I combined all the bowls into one and let that settle again overnight in the fridge.

The next morning I finished sucking the rest of the water off and transfered the goo into a rectangular glass cooking pan. As I worked the water out from the edges with paper towels and gravity the hash started to take shape. Using latex gloves (cause it doesn't stick to them) I continued to hand squeeze the ball until I couldn't get any more of the moisture out. At this point it weighed 21 g but was still noticeably too damp for smoking.

Now after two days of drying I wound up with 17 g of hashish. A little corner of the "brick" broke off so sampling were in order.

Not too bad I have to say. So all in all, I learned an awful lot by this little experiment and will definately be working on my new skills come slabhead's 2009 grow. Thanks rollitup for teaching an old dog a new trick!

Well I got out this morning to check on the rest of my girls. It was a paranoid trip into the bottom. I shouldn't have smoked the hash before going, but "Oh Well". First off the acorns are falling out of the trees left and right. Shhhhiiiittttt! WTF was that?!?!?!? Then I see the creek all stirred up from a hog when I get there (look behind the bucket to the right). They've been feeding on the acorns and don't seem the least bit interested in my plants. I'd worried about that since I've been watering with 2 tbs of molasses per gal of water for the last few weeks. Now I'm hearing airplanes overhead and those damn acorns are still dropping like bombs. LOL, ok calm down. Everything is going to be Alright!
Well I took a few pics but the close up shots are not too great. Guess I'll try another week. They are smelling amazing and almost all the fan leaves have dropped.

Hey Slabhead those plants are beautiful!!!! Your gonna love that shit when its ready!!! Unbelievable job. I was out checking mine today too...i almost shit myself when a Cessna flew about 100 ft over the trees 150 yards ahead of me...wasn't the cops though, just some jerk off playing around.. i wish mine were as nice as yours, but mine are ok...just not as nice looking. Bow season for deer starts here saturday which is always a stressful time...hunters walk around everywhere, but it gives me a reason to be in the woods...just put on some camo and i'm hunting if anyone asks...good luck to ya dude, they are gonna be tasty buds when done

LOL... you had me rolling there man.. I mean i have never grown guerrilla style but i have sure been high in the woods... hell try it at night when you aint supposed to be doing somethin ..lol...

you know i used to know a man...dman it my wifes grandfather ok!.. glad i got that out..hehee.. he used to tell me that where people go wrong in guerilla grows is that they want to grow too many. 1or2 plants under or next to a tall tree... these plants grow great in semi shade conditions... most of the time they only need about 5 hours of strong light to them... so i say plant more... if you have allot of trees... Allways check for those nice spots under tall trees that just happen to get good sun under then at the base... helicopters look for patches of plants cause we are still stupid most of the time... they are totally noticable from up there.. they dont need no ray gun or gogles or non of that shit... it just scream im here... a perfect little patch of same coloring plants... all the same hieght too...lol.... good luck bro
