Day 18 since sprouting

Space cookies paradise seeds

Growing in FFOF
Started under cfls for 3-4 days, then moved under 6x54w bulb t5ho for vegging

I Noticed the spots couple days ago after transplant. Noticed the yellowing yesterday and it's showing on the tip of another leaf aswell.

No nutes given yet
Ph'd water. 6.2-6.6 + amor si

Ph fluctuation?
Nute burn from the FFOF?

Skip the armor si. You don't need it.
Do you meam in general or this early in the grow? I only ask because I can see a clear difference in stem and branch size and strength. It's also good for helping your plants fight pests and diseases.

Can I ask your reasoning as I think it would be beneficial to the OP and me.

Well this early in a grow especially in a soil like Fox Farms. Also soil growers don't need additional Si because there is plenty present in soil. I guess you could make a case for it's use in hydro but even then it's not needed. I used it a couple times but stopped using it as I didn't notice any significant benefit and I like to keep things as simple as possible. I'm not one to use more than I need so I grow with Calcium nitrate, a micronutrient blend, and MKP. I never have any issues with deficiencies, spots on leaves, etc...

That's just me. If others want to use silica that's their choice. I will say one thing regarding silica. Don't overpay for some fancy brand. Just buy some water soluble Potassium Silicate and call it a day. You can get a pound for a little more than $16. That's enough for hundreds of gallons of nutrient solution.

FFOF isn't intended to be used on such a small plant. It's rather loaded with nutrients and intended to have plants transplanted into it after they've grown for a while, like maybe when they get a foot tall or so. This is why the company makes the light warrior version of soil. What they want is for growers to use the light warrior first, then transplant into ocean forest. What the exact cause is of those spots, I don't know, but I'm writing this because you've used ocean forest earlier in the grow than the company intends it to be used and this might be the problem. It shouldn't be necessary to add anything else at such an early stage. I know there's always the temptation to do so, but you can easily ruin your grow that way.

Yes i have heard this about FFOF

although i did use it the exact same way on my previous grow and never had one issue, the little seedlings loved it and thrived for 40+ days without needing nutes. never once showing any deficiencies or problems.

Obviously tho, every strain is different and this Space cookies might just not like the hotness of the FFOF, i honestly am not sure.

Only thing i can think is,

my PH pen was on its way out of calibration and gave me a crappy reading before last watering.
From all the reading i have done, looks like the spots could be ph related?

would this make sense?

Why are you phing in an ammended organic peat mix? And what are you using to ph?
PH up and down by general hydroponics

first i am hear of not ph`ing my water?

would you please explain. as i said, this is my only my 2nd grow. Was under the impression and i have had it stressed to me on this site, PH PH PH lol

These mixes are buffered with lime and have a stable ph and organic soils rely on microbial activity to feed the plants. There is a microcosmos there called the rhizosphere, which is filled with life. Phing is a chemical fertilizer thing and actually if you’re using phosporic acid you’re stressing the microherd too.
Instead of phing, i’d just throw in a monthly compost tea and let it do its thing. Other wise don’t bother with paying a bunch for ffof. Just get good quality peat and aeration material if you’re going with chemicals, or better yet coco.
Are you doing chemical ferts?

Yes eventually i will be using Floranova bloom to use through flowering stage. Last run the FFOF kept my plants fed through 2 transplants and up until day 40+ of veg.

No nutes have been used yet , just the soil.

So are you saying, i could be just feeding with water and not have to waste time ph`ing at all? man i spent alot of time on PH during my first grow lol like ALOT

The fruit punch are turning out really good, thought it was wise to not change anything with this 2nd grow. So everything has been the same in regards to soil and water and eventually nutes.

Yes. If your soil is amended with enough organic amendments. Just water without phing. Usually in a 5-7 gal you can get thru a short veg and flower with only water. But if you go small then you will need to topdress or feed organic. It may be bottled organic like biobizz or better yet homemade stuff like fpes. Or again, just topdress with good wormcastings and bat guano mix and feed liquid kelp extract if you like. If you don’t have a terribly shitty water. It’ll be fine. I don’t ph and plants come out great. I add EM and fpes made by LAB and EM and when i took a ph reading for the fun of it i see that it comes down to 5.1-5.5 and my tap is about 7. Doesn’t make a difference if you mix is filled with life.

Or if you take the ionic path, than don’t waste your money on premium mixes like ffof. At this point it is only a protection for the roots and a support for the plant. That is all.

My tap water is high 7s... 45-55 ppm.

that's a bunch of great info, thank you very much. I wasn't aware of any of that, i did so much research before starting my first grow, I never once read anything that said i didn't need to ph in ffof. so my entire first grow i ph`d every drop lol. oh well, it worked.

Getting back to the original question, any ideas on what the spots and yellowing may be?Seems like it shouldn't be a PH issue , considering the above info. The plants are all growing fine, showed great roots when i transplanted and plenty of new growth since the up potting. Just these spots and the slight yellowing/fading on the other leaf. Seems she is telling me something, i just dont know what.

Now i am even more confused lol

My tap is 400ppm 250 is Ca and who knows whats the rest.

Don’t get me wrong, this organic thing goes beyond not phing and i don’t want your plants to suffer. This is what i do and get good results. Just look at some organics threads right here on this site. You’ll see none of the organic farmers ph their water. We provide compost and compost teas to keep the soil alive and microbes thriving and just let it do its thing. Still no overdoing even in organics.

As for your problems, i’m not very good at diagnosing shit but it may be bad watering practices or a mix that is a bit rich for a seedling.

Do you go by weight of the pot when watering or what?

Yes always by weight of pot.

These girls were only transplanted from solos into these 3G pots 2-3days ago, at the time they were watered a few inches out from base of stem. Never soaked the whole pot yet. as with my last grow, the second or third watering after transplant is when I began soaking the pots and then waiting till they dry out real good and are light to lift before watering again.

This is the first grow, they are day 14 flower

Using same everything on 2nd grow as first.

Same soil
Same water
Fabric pots

Main difference is the first run were vegged under my 600w mh, this run is currently under t5ho

If you try not pH'ing your water in Fox Farm ocean Forest you wish you did. Instead adjust your pH properly and consistently to 6.5 for best results
