UPKEEPING MICROBES IN RDWC

Hello all I have been using both Hydroguard and Photosynthesis plus in RDWC.

I have been using PP for some time in coco and love it. I'm now using HG and PP in RDWC, its all a bit haphazard at the moment.

I initially add full strength HG when the system is filled wait a few days and add half strength PP. I then just add a 100ml or a splash of each weekly (or when I remember) for up keep as I add new nutrient solution.

HG contains only Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens @ 1.00 x 10 4cfu's ml. PP contains Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens @ 1.00 x 10 7cfu's ml along with loads of other good bacteria and mycorrhizae.

Dose for HG is around 12 ml per 20 litres at full strength, with no mention of upkeep dose.

Dose for PP is initially 60ml per 20l followed by weekly doses of 30ml per 20 litres.

Any advice on the dose for these two products would be great

Could I drop the hydroguard ?

Do I need to keep on adding or will the population of good bacteria just continue to grow (I don't add sugars to the system)

Would you recommend full strength in RDWC.

Many thanks

Stop adding microbes to a rdwc system. You are asking for problems.

Go buy you a bag of poolshock, burnout73 or similar (as long as it’s 73%). Add 1 gram of pool shock to one gallon of distilled water. Use that solution at 5ml per gallon in your system with every top off.

I tried sterile when I first started CD mate but had root rot problems, things seem ok running microbes.

I may try sterile again at some point as I have read some good reports using pool shock and it seems quite economical.

Use a chiller and you'll have success.
To be truthful my water temps are low (cold part of north UK) I just like the idea of microbes in my system.

I see GH do one called BM (Bioponic Mix) which contains Trichoderma Harzianum this is supposedly the dogs bollocks when it comes to fighting root rot and other root disease. My concern would be getting it into the system and keeping it alive. Maybe a tube of Bio filter foam around the epicenter inlet would work.

Is my thinking correct? Hydroguard contains Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens @ 1.00 x 10 4cfu's ml. Photosynthesis plus contains Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens @ 1.00 x 10 7cfu's ml, does suggest PP contain just short of twice as much colony forming units (cfu's) of the bacterium.

Be great if someone could explain as I don't understand the colony forming unit/ml (cfu's/ml) calculation.

Can't get it over here in UK I'm afraid.
PP also contains lots of other good stuff so will drop the watery Hydro guard. By my calculations PP is 10 times stronger than HG.
that stinks you can't get it over there. a pint is 17 bucks here.

Orca. or great white. it's the shit. 5ml/10gal, but i like to use that amount for my 5gal buckets, it does wonders. you can also drop it onto seeds/use with fastrooters. drop all that other shit you're using and hop on this stuff. it's relevantly cheap too.

Looking at Photosynthesis plus it has 100,000,000 cfu per ml Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. I believe this is the main bacteria to fight against root rot.

there was a guy here a while ago that found a source in the UK for a powdered version Bacillus amyloliquefaciens that was really cheap too. can't remember the name of it though.
