How to PH the right way????

Right guys I have the PH pen with the PH4 and PH7 for calibration, I'm using canna coco as my medium but how would I PH properly? Do i PH the water before watering? Do I PH after I add my nutrients to the water? And so I just stick the PH pen into the bottles of PH4 and 7 as it says on the bottle as I heard it could contaminate the bottles?

So confused here like, tha is in advance for the answers.

Ph after nutes ...use only one buffer I use 7 ...ph...keep probe clean and moist with a storage fluid
I have not got a storage fluid, I heard just dunking it in water then drying it would be alright and it would clear the Crystal's it might form?

Mine is a Hanna and it has a rubber cap that I have to add a bit of moisture once a week ... yours may be different but most need storage fluid ...it is cheap

Have a plastic cap, I shall order some before these seeds finish germinating, do I just change the fluid after every use?

Cool I learned something here too - for what it's worth, I haven't been storing mine in water, but do the rinse/dry. I just calibrated it after like six months, and it had drifted about .3 so maybe that's why!

I was calibrating every use, and was just putting the cap back on until the next time when I finished with the water.

Some meters, left to right in pic, store dry, some store with a few drops of liquid in the caps sponge, others with their caps half full of liquid.

I don't recall the storage liquids name offhand but this is what I use, hope this helps

Edit to add the only meter I use and recommend is the green one, Apera

Use separate shot glasses for the 4 and 7 calibration fluids. Use Storage solution when not in use.

Apera and Bluelab are popular meters for a reason.
Quick and precise Ph, and temp.

(Horrible experiences with the el-cheapo ph meters! Trying to save a buck...)

Here is my advice, if you are not going to be running a recirculating reservoir.
BUY a fertilizer that auto pH'es

If you use Canna's line, use the soil version, even in coco, as it is more pH stable.

Get some shotglasses, preferably the ones with measurements on the side.

first you need to calibrate your PH pen. instructions should of came on how to do that it is extremely simple. then to prep your PH pen for storage again extremely simple. after you calibrate it then it's ready to use.

all you do is basically put your water in a jug or w.e. is easiest for you to PH it in ( i use 1gal water jug as my plants use up the 1gal easily ) i add nutrients and then i PH. after it stabilizes the reading then i adjust the PH using PH UP/DOWN. add 1-2 drops PH and adjust. you do NOT need a lot of PH UP/DOWN i bought a small bottle it lasts a LONG time.

if your adding silicone do note that you MUST add silicone to the water FIRST!!! then you add the other nutrients. this is because the silicone is supposed to raise your PH and then lock out the other nutrients so i've read. you can measure PH of your run off as well just water to i think 10-20% run off and PH that water. i don't do this i just keep my PH as low as i can which is around 6.0-6.3 if im super lazy to continue to adjust.

Run off is the water that drains out the bottom. You water to run off to mainlu get the roots at the bottom wet and drain out the salt build up wheb using liquid nutes
