Light during dark hours

I have read that when you switch the lights off the the dark period of your light cycle you need 100% darkness. People are in a panic over pinholes of light. Is it that serious? Does this not apply to outdoor grows? Wouldn't outdoor ambient light at night be an issue?
 
Light leaks can be a real issue in flower, if the plants were exposed to to minor leak in veg they will probably be fine in flower. But who wants to find out the hard way? Outdoor plants are exposed to all kinds of light, the same doesn't quite apply unless your growing under a street light.
 
I've thought the same thing. Some nights the moon is so bright that you can see everything. But Ive heard of indoor growers that had a hole about the size of a nail and it caused the plant to delay flower and hermie. I haven't had that problem YET so great thread if others can weigh in on the issue
 
I am growing in a tent. It seems very light tight, but just for good measure I cover it with a sheet. My first grow I dont want to take any chances

I think the moon is like 1-3 lumens
 
I don't believe pinhole light leaks are a problem if the plants are acclimated to those tiny leaks from the beginning but if you have a timer malfunction during bloom that interrupts the dark cycle problems will arise...especially with seed plants.
 
Newb here. Scenaerio > Night mode in flower trouble rears its head (not sure what but sure I'll find out) and you need to light room for maintenance for 1- 30 minutes. Will this effect flower as a one off / on occasion?
Is this where the of the green lantern comes into action?
 
Plants are adaptive little fucks, you let them settle in a specific environment for a while then they might react when things change.

Introducing a pin-hole leak early/mid flower "could" cause problems if its done consistently.

Also has to do with how much light actually hits the plant, a small leak hitting a huge plant wouldn't be as bad as a small leak hitting 1 plant in a sog.
 
I'm a new grower, with bout 5 months of growing. I use a tent, but I have a open room veg area next to it. This grow area is in a laundry room. I leave the front tent flap open 24/7. I'm careful about light during the dark period, but I've had several occasions where the dark period was interrupted due to accidents, stuff happens. About a couple of months ago I finally put blackout curtains in strategic spots that helped a lot with light spilling into the flower room. Anyway, in my short experience a little light here and there doesn't effect the plant too much. I've only had one hermie, but I'm not sure if the light was the cause. I really stressed my first plants in various ways. I haven't had issues with hermies, except that one, but have had issues with just about everything else, lol! If you need to work in the dark period, I think you can use a green tinted light bulb, not sure.
 
Just as it takes time for the plant to go to sleep at lights off, it takes the same time at lights on to wake them up. A few minutes of interrupted sleep shouldn't cause them to hermie .
 
on my first grow i tried to keep my plants under the street light right outside my garden. it used to be out but they just changed the bulb sometime in 2018. figured it would veg my plants longer sadly the plant ended up flowering still. the plant was lit up huge ass light leak. with my current grow though i just tossed them in the same area but because i can't get 10/14 outside at my house without exposing the plants to passerby's i just leave em in the same spot but now i move the plants to the back of our house where it's completely dark.

im honestly not over worried about the street light though because of the fact i dont get a lot of hours of direct sunlight tons of indirect sunlight

I think they cannot grow very well under street light. Low par and heat. I still like grow indoor. :blsmoke:
