Whats going on everyone, in the planning stages of building an led to cover a 4x12 grow space once we get settled into our new home!

The 4x12 area will be broken down into 3 separate 4x4 trays will most likely be using Autopots (testing them out as we speak)

Right now im rocking a 260 watt quantum board kit from HLG in my 2x4 and also a 320 watt QB kit in my 3x3. My last grow under the 260 watt kit in the 2x4 got me 14.3 oz of some dam good nugs of 3 IN THE PINK by exotic genetics. I definitely could have done better if i trained more and filled up the tent a bit more then i did...

Ive been looking at the HLG elite 96 v2 with heat sink there only $99 and 2 can easily run on a hlg-480h-54. I could buy 8 of the elites for $800 then on arrow.com i can get 3- hlg-480h-54 drivers for $334 with the 12% discount they are offering. I could then use angle aluminum to mount the heat sinks on the frame like the rapid led frame. So for roughly $1150-1200 i could be rocking 1920 watts in the 4x12 area... obviously this isnt as efficient as using strips but wouldn't this way be the cheapest way to cover this area with led ?

If i went with strips could i run 16 bxeb-l1120's (eb gen 2 4 footers) on a hlg-600h-42a using just 1x1x⅛x4' angle aluminium as my heat sink ? Or will the strips get too hot ? With my calculations each strip would be running at 75% so would that be 1050ma about 40 watts a strip ?

Im looking to get the most efficient led setup but need to get my area covered as well... the elites but it at about .47cents a watt driver included...
The bridgelux strips are $13.69 each when you buy 50 on digikey. Comes out to $685. 3 hlg-600h-42a drivers are $450 after discount on arrow. so drivers and strips = $1135 but the problem is i cant source angle aluminium very cheap...

on metalsdepot.com 50- 4 foot 1x1x⅛ angle aluminum strips will cost me $400!!!!

From my calculations (WHICH COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG!!!!!) Too completely setup my 4x12 grow space kighting it would cost ABOUT!!
ENTIRE LIGHTING SETUP COST!

8- HLG elite 96 v2 = $1200 (1920 WATTS)

50- BXEB-L1120Z-35E4000-C-B3 = $1600 (1800 WATTS)

Which setup would you choose and why ? Also if you can give me a better build example for cheaper that would be awesome as well ! We just purchased our first house so money is a little on the tight side... but need to get this 4x12 setup !!

Thank you all for the help. Hope everyone has a fantastic evening. Stay lifted .

Height is necessary with the elites. Strips will be so much more versatile and will make you a whole lot happier.

PLUS you can just use 2 of the wonderfully priced, $31 LRS-350-48 mean wells for your strips and save a bunch more money! Man aren't Ya glad Ya posted!?!

Damn......
Screenshot_2019-03-12-22-25-12.png looks like between the 350-36 & 350-48 voltage potentiometers, you're Juuuuuuuust Barely outta that 42v sweet spot lololololol.
But there's plenty of other strips you could use that will work more perfectly.

Yeah i saw the voltage was a tad high. I was checking out the f strips but the diode count is lower on on the samsungs then the bridgelux. But Yes Samsungs more efficient

How much height is necessary with those hlg elite 96 v2's ? I'll have 8ft ceilings.

Umm check again... 4/7/19 is what it says on digikey. For the 3500k. Haven't checked the 3000k

Quite the price difference between the samsung f series 4footers and the bridgelux eb gen 2 4 footers...
But they run a lot harder and you'd need many less to do the same job. Just less angle aluminum needed. That website also sells channels or tubes if you wanted them instead.

Height depends on how hot you run them. If you have 2 per 480h that’s about the max you can run them so to get even coverage and avoid bleaching you’d probably want them pretty far, at least 24-36” from canopy in flower.

I use mine just like cobs. They are at 110watts each about 18” from canopy.

So ive really been thinking and the end goal is to have the most efficient light i can build at a reasonable cost.

If i could use strips and run them at 1050ma using 16 strips per hlg-600h-42 i could buy 50 strips for $684.80 off digikey (not in stock) then 3 hlg-600h-42 for $447 those two components together will set me back about $1130.

What is the minimum amount of heatsink material needed in order to keep these strips cool enough at 1050ma ? I can add a couple 120mm pc fans on top of each build if need be...

Could i use 1x⅛x48 flat bar ?
Or does it habehto be atleast angle aluminum at 1050 ma ?
Thank you all for the help so far !

If i built a 48x48 frame then spaced the 16 strips 2 inches apart i could then rearrange down the road to fit 24 strips with 1 inch spacing . Though it would only cost about $340 in strips to get efficiency down to 700ma on the 3 600 watt setups.

Im aware im going to need about 700-800 watts in order to reach 1000ppfd at the canopy . What if i lowered the strips to say 8-12 inches from canopy?

Thanks everyone

I can get 50- aluminium 6061 1x⅛x48 flats for $100!!! Would it work at 1050 ma using bxeb-l1120's

@Randomblame you have any suggestions ? Ive noticed you have ALOT of valuable information.

Thank you
