So my plan is to set up a perpetual grow.

In my flowering tent i am planning on having two quantum boards in a 5x10 tent. 600w each.

But i need a light for my veg tent. I was thinking a 1200w viparspectra or a metal halide.

Does anybody have any suggestions about lighting for a 5x5 veg tent?

CMH or LED's are pretty much the best options these days for growing in general, but because of their price, people shy away from them. CMH, while new on the market, is actually old and very reliable technology. If you can drop 400$-800$, I would say to take the LED or CMH route. But I'm not sure about vipar just because I've not used them. When I say LED, I mean quantum boards and cobs.

Cmh 315 will veg that tent nice at about 31 watts a square foot, plenty, don't forget par. Vipar leds have terrible par readings. 1200 watt vipar would have trouble covering a 3x3 in veg if im being honest, average par on that light is like 220 max. Cmh par readings on the other hand are top notch, average par on a 315 is 600 and they spread the light better to the edges

Chm 315 are only $300 on fleabay, seems like a good deal when a pound and a half is possible under it
Do you think that a 315w would flower a 3x3 grow tent? I have two plants I'm intending on putting into the 3x3, was hoping that the 315w would at least cover their first 2-4 weeks of bloom while the autoflowering plants in my larger grow tent finish up, then they can go back under my 1000w light. Not intending to steal your thread OP, my apologies!

Much appreciated Purple!
Thats the way, more blue in flower produces more dense flower
This is also really useful for those that have height restrictions. Red spectrum is more stimulating for stem growth, and for this reason in specific I use a MH for more blue spectrum in the first few weeks of bloom to reduce their stretch and get shorter plants. The 4200k bulbs also produce more UV if I'm right, which will trigger cannabis to produce more trichomes on it's budmass. :)

MH lamps are great for flower and cheap

I like to use HPS for the first part of flower, to get the mass, and the last few weeks a MH 10k finishing bulb for density and extra UV for resin production.
