Light cycle

Hi Guys, I read recently about the Following light cycle:

13 hours on and 11 hours off eachday; you would set the light to come on for 12 hours, off for 5.5 hours, on again for 1 hour, then off for 5.5 hours.

“By doing this you will give the marijuana plant enough light per day for it to continue growing in the vegetative stage, as well you are saving close to 50% in your electricity bill. This vegetative light cycle is highly used by all of my veteran medical marijuana growers.”

Anybody tried this method?

Why not just run 15 on 9 off ? Running multi lighting during the 24 hour days is counter productive as the plant has to wake back up to start photosynthesizing again. An hour of light is just starting to let the plant get in to the peak photosynthesis again.

Does an hour less each day influence the yield?

i have. and it's easy to tell that the other commenters have not.
GLR has been around since Victorian times when they would actually use a gas lantern to break up the night cycle to keep flowers from blooming but being really close to blooming when needed.

the only thing i didn't like about it was my temps during the dark cycle got too low and i didn't really want to run a heater to make up for it.

if you are concerned about saving money on your power bill, it will do that for sure.

Kushdi, will defo give it a go, I take it, that it works with any growing method (thinking of SoG or Scrog, unless u reckon there is a better growing method).

Thanks man; I hope for a good crop!

So far I’ve only been farming outdoors/greenhouse, relying on the sun.
Sounds like GLR is the closest thing u get to natural sun cycles.

You take care!

Have a good one!

i've tried everything from 11/1 to GLR to 18/6, 20/4 24/0. i think 24/0 works the best for me.
For flowering, ever consider shortening the length of a 'day' - say, to 20 hours? 10on/10off? - I've been trying to find info on this and cant seem to find any. Of course the lights would come on 4 hours earlier each day, which is not ideal, but it seems this method could shorten flowering times - based on the idea that a relatively small amount of growth occurs during the final 2 hours of the light and dark phases.

I started a thread asking about this in the indoor forum - not trying to hijack this thread, just thought I'd chime in and propose an alternative idea that some may have not even considered.

i havent' tried any weird cycles for bloom. 12.5/11.5 seems to work fine for me.

see if @torontoke will chime in. he's tried i think as little as 5 hours on if i remember correctly. he could probably answer better than me.

Dragging me back into this subject again eh
Thanks lol
I too have used the glr for veg however I’ve since abandoned it.
For plants that lean more to the indica side I found they were often preflowering and sometimes just flat out flowering.
It’s seems to be a great method for certain strains tho.

I’ve thought about this experiment myself however the reason I haven’t attempted it myself is the fluctuations of the on off times.
It would make keeping track of when you could get in to do maintainance etc a giant pita. Not to mention that we are on a rationing energy bill where it’s more expensive certain times vs others.
100% believe that it would speed up the overall flower cycle quite a bit.

I have tried most wacky cycles you can google or think of from only 6 hours on up to 13.
My preference is and always will be 8 but lately I’ve been using 10 for seed runs.
My advice to anyone considering trying something out of the norm is to find what cycles work best for you. Don’t rely on old wives tales and passed down knowledge based on the technology of 100years ago.
It’s your garden only you can choose what’s best for you.

Hi, u say that glr works better for some strains than others; I have some beans with high Sativa percentage. Would glr be ok for those?

Impossible to say 100% either way until you try it.
You really have nothing to lose tho.
The worst thing that could happen is it starts flowering and u could always add hours.

I tried the GLR once, there were a few strains I had that weak ass flowered with it. I think it was an OG Kush variant and a Kushage cut that did that.
