So i am hoping to build a greenhouse in the coming months and my goal will be to keep it odor-free. It will be a solid greenhouse, not a hoop house or similiar.
My idea comes from how commercial compost facilities will use finished compost /mulch to cover the static piles, creating a bio-cover that helps to stop odor. Another facility I was reading about used this bio-cover idea differently where they took air from their enclosed composting facility and routed it to a large pile of bio-cover to remove the smell. The bio-cover was sitting on a perforated concrete pad and the air was sent under the pad and up the holes into the bio-cover.
So, I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this question. Can I route air from my greenhouse that is growing cannabis, to an outside pile of bio-cover? I was thinking a 5x5x5 pile with the air coming to it through perforated piping that is situated beneath it.
Think this would clean the smell? The bio-cover used in the commercial compost setting isn't changed out very regularly and I was thinking this pile might work for 8-12 months at least before needing to be changed, if this idea would even work, since I do not know. I read a research paper that studied the odor neutralization of odor causing gases, and in the study they used finish compost and found that it did diminish the smell greatly, but not completely if you were very close to the pile. Terps aren't the result of a smelly gas, so idk.
Any input appreciated!
