Just picked up two 120v 315’s in 4200 with light rails for my moms and veg space. Had some questions about wiring them to a timer. My game plan is to plug them into a heavy duty shop power strip, capable of handling 1850 watts / 15 amps. Then plug that power strip into a standard Titan outlet timer. I know the ballasts only pull 360, and I’ve read that they are soft start ballasts - meaning that they fire up low wattage and increase as the bulb heats up. Can anyone confirm?
They’re going to be on a 20 amp circuit, which I wired myself during the buildout and had an electrician inspect. The only other thing on that circuit will be a small 5000 BTU window AC unit. I’m not worried about overloading the circuit, just concerned about plugging them into the strip then timer. I ran them like this for 15 mins the other day and then powered down. None of the plugs were hot anywhere. It should be noted that the light timer I have says do not use with digital ballasts on the back. Not sure if the integrated ballasts are digital in these. Any insight?
