so im building an 8 x 8 grow tent out of 2x2's and black and white plastic sheeting. Im planning on flowering 16 plants. 4 girl scouts, 4 master kush, 4 black russians and 4 gorrilla glue #4.using four 1000w hps with air cooled hoods. 10" vortex fan w/carbon filter to exhaust the room and two six in fans to cool the lights.heres a shot of the clones. I cut them yesterday even though the room isnt built yet, but they should be vegged out to just the right size by the time its complete.20190323_190124.jpg

ill have an A/C running outside the tent, and an inkbird temp controller to run the fans.
I have a Temp/RH controller on my exhaust fan along with a speed controller. I don't cool my HID lights as I have lots of cool air for the grow room without A/C. You should have speed control for the fans you plan to use to cool your lights as they don't need full blast air movement to cool the lights plenty.

I only have one 400W MH going in the grow room now and have to have the heater help to keep the temp up to 70F. It's on a thermostat so only comes on when needed.

how big is your room?

7x9x6.5'h. It is a cold room the original owner built down in the concrete bunker under the house that is 25x10x7'h and unheated. Currently 48F and 35% RH down there. It's been warm lately here in northern Alberta.

All the air is drawn thru filters from the larger area down there so it's already cooled and very dry so low RH is a bit of a problem. Even when using the 1000W SHPS the exhaust fan only kicks in once in a while most of the year and I worry about the CO2 level when there are lots of plants going so burn an alcohol lamp in there to boost that up. Adds a little moisture to the air as well.

ahh i see, im actually having two problems in my closet. In the daytime its high temps and low humidity, and night is low temps and high humidity, so i have to tinker a bit with controls to keep everything in range. I have a heater and a dehumidifier for night and use fans and humidifier in the day.

That's a common problem to have. As the temps go down the RH goes up relative to the temp even tho there is really no more moisture in the air. Thus the name, Relative Humidity.

We have very dry air here. 22% here in the mancave right now but 50% in the grow room but only because the exhaust fan isn't coming on at all and I have a couple of pails of water in there to keep the RH higher to hopefully help my last plants reveg. Most of the time the exhaust fan is drawing fresh, dry air into the room on a regular basis and the RH is much lower than I want. Running a humidifier is pointless as the moisture keeps getting sucked out. For someone with a tent grow it's best to humidify the air in the room the tent is in so air at the proper RH is being drawn into the tent and the plants have a steady level.

I'd like to make my grow room into a sealed unit but need a portable AC/Dehuey and a CO2 tank to use with my CO2 controller to do it right and don't have a spare G note to buy that stuff.

i was lucky to get a clone of the master kush, which is now a mother plant. My buddy asked if i wanted clones and i rushed right over there with a quickness! lol
I grew Master Kush for several years. It's a really nice strain. Large dense buds. I also initially got clones from a friend. This time I'll be growing from seed. I have a ten pack of regulars from Dutch Passion. I plan on making more seeds to throw in the vault.

So i was getting a humidifier and i ran across this.Screenshot_2019-03-29-18-42-38-1.png what do you guys think about these? I could save some time and money by buying a kit but not sure if its worth it. I calculated $1283 for my d.i.y. tent. Also i could save about 300 dollars in power.Screenshot_2019-03-29-18-42-57-1.png Screenshot_2019-03-29-18-43-03-1.png Screenshot_2019-03-29-18-43-52-1.pngScreenshot_2019-03-29-18-44-21-1.png

It's always a hard decision to make when setting up a system you want to grow in for years.

Cheap out and in a year or so you're kicking yourself in the ass or spend like royalty then lose interest later and it's another but-kicking party.

For myself with a cool underground grow area I would go with the HPS lights but don't need lights as I have more than I need now and need the heat.

For most guys they need to avoid heat so the LEDs are the way to go.

Biggest problem is that new growers don't have a clue what they need and get sucked in by the $$ signs.

'Our 1000W equivalent LED systems will save you tons of cash' but later you find out they couldn't grow a decent turnip so you need better lights. Our cheapo tent is great but soon falls apart and you need a quality tent etc etc.

There's nothing wrong as a nOOb in buying a half-assed all-in-one system for real cheap then replacing things to upgrade your grow as you learn more and develop a love for growing. That cheapo light and tent can become a great veg space while you upgrade for the more important flowering space.

It's too easy to get into a new hobby and buy nothing but the best then later find out it doesn't work for you or you lose interest and wasted a lot of dough.

Be careful out there.

:peace:
