Cannabis legalization in Canada is truly Reefer Madness 2.0 (long read)

Legal if you get your seeds or clones from a gov't approved source or from a registered medical grower willing to provide proof that he/she/it gave them to you. LPs cal sell them for profit but med growers have to 'gift' them.

I'm in northern AB and calculated my real cost for power at 23.5¢/kwh so it costs me almost $90/mth to run a 1000W HPS 12 hours/day. Just crazy. Too far north to get outdoor plants to finish in time before the snow flies or a killing frost gets them. Always meant to grow autos outside but never bothered. May put a few out this year for the hell of it. Can stash them in the woods on the north side of my little acreage tho around the dugout might be better so I don't have to haul water. We have been getting ripped off for power ever since King Ralph deregulated the system way back when to balance the budget. It's all US companies running the show now and they are gouging the hell out of us.

Good luck with your efforts and here's some study material for you.

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS. I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as some are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.

Omfg, they've gone and regulated seeds too? So buying Cdn seeds online is wrong somehow? I think I've purposely avoided reading the 'law' so as to save my sanity - because that's just crazy :( What about ones we have just lying around from days gone by? They are mine, and I paid for them. They came with the weed! lolol... What a joke.

I'm sorry... US companies are running the show here?? Enmax, Direct Energy and all those guys!?? I didn't know that. Why on earth would anyone allow that to happen? Good grief. Thanks for making it even harder to pay those bills, lol. Yeah, I'm estimating an extra $100/month for electric - just by knowing what it usually was - and I'm only running a 600w - which 'says' equivalent 450w. Which I took with a grain of salt, btw. It's a cheapy.

And thank you very much for the link. I've read a lot in this crash course, and always looking to read more. Appreciated :bigjoint:

A long read but well worth it. Anything David writes about pot is worth the time it takes to read it. His dispensary was the only one allowed to post a thread in the CC forums because he was such a trusted founding member and has done so much to further our cause.

Thanks for posting that one!

Wow. :) You're right. It's a long read - esp. w/ all those links! So far, pretty amazing research in there. Impressive, yet frustrating, what with all the evidence of misinformation & notions. Thanks for passing this along :)

Here's a fun fact: The RCMP are not concerned about someone smoking weed in vehicles while they are guarding Trudeau. I was in Nanaimo this morning and as I was driving out of the restaurant parking lot, Trudeau and his entourage drove by coming from the airport (he just called a by-election here). A couple of hours later we're coming around the corner near the ferry and a cop is standing in the middle of the road stopping traffic. My wife was driving and I was smoking a joint and I figured I was busted. The cop just stood there while Trudeau walked out of the building, waved at people and got into a van....then he let us continue. No way he couldn't have smelled the weed.

Thank you! Funny you say that, as the light I have is a POS - I think. And was looking at COB to replace it.
Will definitely be taking a closer look now :)
Buy something led that is full spectrum. Then you can use it in veg and flower. Also make sure it dims as that increases it's versatility at lot.

Buy seeds wherever you want....NO ONE is coming for you. They don't any where near the resources to check. Just say, if EVER asked, They came in your legal weed you bought.
It a scarelaw and nothing more....ignore it.

We can legally share bud, seeds and non-flowering' plants...provided they are not 'illicit'...given that we can also grow, nothing you have is illicit.

Ergo & therefore... I'm okay with that. Anyways, one look at my plants and they'd burst out laughing. Can't expect me to be up on the law and learn to grow at the same time ... sheesh! All this pressure, lol.

Hi again. I like the dimming option a lot. Hey, just wondering if I find one I can afford, can I run it by you guys before I get it? For my little 32" x 32" tent, would I still need the same 600w - or does that requirement change with Cob lighting? Thanks - don't want to make another mistake.

Going to have to get one of those kilowatt plug-in thingys too, so I can see what the draw is... out of curiosity.

I hope that made sense. Can't sleep, so getting high... :eyesmoke:
(Oh, ps... finished that Georgia Strait article. Will probably read it again, it was that good.) Shocking stuff really, but hardly surprising. Just disappointing - especially the paid "research" from universities part :( ugh. One step forward, three back? He makes a solid case exposing the govt cartel though, eh? Nice work.

For sure you can ask us here. Your cool and we like cool people. People who DON'T buy government weed.
600w is a lot in a 32 x 32 tent. How hot was it in there? That's more useful in a 4x4 tent or even a 5x5. But having extra is nice at certain times. Getting a wide spectrum will enable you to go from veg to flower easily. A dimming feature will allow you to turn it down some during early veg and then ramp it up as they get bigger. LED also allows a bit of forgiveness if your plants get to close. They won't burn as badly. And it happens at times that they get too big and poof.
So with the LED market you can get pretty fancy now. Optional controllers to operate and control the timing off and on........room heat sensor....high temp ramp down....high temp shut off.....sunrise/sunset ramp up and down. These are very nice features as they take care of extra heat if a fan breaks or whatever. They will dim the light to reduce the heat load. VERY VERY nice stuff. But of course you gotta free up your wallet. You only get what you pay for as they say. I'm NOT a believer in cheaping out. That's just me though. Some guys enjoy doing this as inexpensively as possible. To them that is the challenge and fun of it. Personally I like big and overkill products. I don't want cheap equipment ruining valuable weed.
Now here's another reason to consider getting what you really want and will get you the best result. These lights nowadays last up to 7 or 8 years. So why not buy correct the first time. As you are finding out. Personally i hate buying something twice. I figure why was i so stupid the first go...lol. Anyway, live and learn right?
The guys here will show you some options on lights and my advice is don't cheap out and get a good one. Listen a lot here. Some of the guys here are near experts in what is what and where it is cheapest to grab it.
After all unless you're into failure after failure it pays to get what works. I've seen plenty of folks not really have what is required and get endless garbage weed in return.
Let me tell you the grow tent/light kits they sell to newbies is only have of what is needed. My 2 cents anyway.
You need a decent environment around them as well.
This isn't easy, but it can be if you equipped correctly.

Check out timber grow lights...... very good customer service. If you want a diy option look for cobkits on this site. you can email cobkits and get suggestions on what to buy and how to hook things up. the lights come in different color spectrums. 3500k is good for veg and flower but some people use different combinations. the downside is that they are based in the USA. I ordered my lights when I was in the USA on a trip and had it delivered to where I was staying.

Thanks. Wholeheartedly agree, but 'starving artist' and all.... decisions had to be made. Since I can't grow anything living under a bridge, I figured 'something' is better than nothing. Despite all the cold weather, late decisions, a broken stem - and a ninja cat who is always trying to break in and eat the leaves - my free seeds are in flower and have some thick buds growing. Colour me surprised! There was a time my poor girls could've joined the #MeToo movement, lol.

But us girls stick together, and got each other through the healing process ;-) Lots of Love.

I am a voracious reader, so this site has been a wealth of info and help. All searches kept leading here, so I figured wth? Might as well join. A bit embarrassing to post journal pics of my poor babies, but I've got nothing to prove, so whatevs. Besides, they just make all you guys' plants look really, really good, lol... (I thought I was doing pretty good until I saw plants on here, within the same time-frame as mine. ROFL!) I'll get there.

It didn't get hot in the tent at all. In fact, I would've appreciated a warmer light during -30+ During the day it runs around 21-22 C. I got a good tent from GrowLights.ca (good ppl there) and finally splurged on a good pH pen from Apera. Would've preferred Blue Lab, so I could support my home country of NZ - but again, it was cost. Mine came with a kit and holder for all the pH for calibration, etc. It's very cute & I love feeling like a scientist. Plus, I think that was where my problems were coming from. Instead of chasing down deficiency this or that, I just waited for the pH pen - and "Voila!" They seem much happier now. Big difference in leaf & stem colours & formation.

There's so much on initial outlay - and I still need another fan, a loupy-thing, and some scissors soon. I think the curing is going to be the most stressful! And then there's the inline exhaust - but no smell yet, so I'm waiting on that. I have a journal here, more for my own records really - but it kind of explains the train-wreck and how it all started. It's more funny than technical, because it really was 'a time'. Ohhh boy...

I was looking at Cob lights too. Darnitall... Just didn't know enough at the time. No biggie though. I'm putting the seller through hell, and they are to the point where they're like, "Keep it. We'll refund the money. Just go away." LOL!

Nope. This is not easy. And some people just think you throw in a seed, and away you go! Yeah, I got news for them! Mad props to good growers. Your advice is awesome. Will try to make a better decision when time rolls around for that. I'm waiting this one out with the LED I've got. I mean, it's not like it doesn't work... it's a loud fan and dust seems to gather on the glass inside. I'll take it apart to clean but, you know, I want something to back it up if things go sideways.

Anyways, taken up a lot of time here. So, thanks again. :blsmoke:

Welcome, I'm sure you'll fit right in here, you seem open to constructive criticism so you're already better than most of the newbies that pass through. Sure from time to time some of us can be curmudgeony, just don't take anything to heart and soon enough you'll be growing like a pro and self sufficient.

Thanks CalyxCrusher :) I am definitely going to need help... I think one of the comments on my journal was, "Oh god." hahaha  If I can't be a good example, then I'll just serve as a horrible warning of what not to do. For now, anyways.

I took a closer look under a different light, and it looks like one plant has Ca def, one has N toxicity, and another has a Mag def - god only knows what's going on with the other one. Guess the pH wasn't "all" my problems after all. I'm looking at getting some CalMag stuff, and wonder why it has 2-0-0 - when I don't want more N for Big Bertha? (She's not very pretty with curly leaves.) It's a right mess. :dunce: Poor things.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread from it's original purpose. Is there another way I can address these multiple issues? Thanks.

You should do a foliar feed to start with...mix up a batch of nutrients and spray your plants with a mister ( if they are not in flower ). Otherwise you could try just spraying the fan leaves.

They're autos in a very long flower, from Overgrow Canada. They were just lying around when all this started, re: journal. Anyway, I have a spray bottle - but a mister is now added to the list (which is growing faster than my plants). I'm at a loss :( Will water them this weekend and upload some pics of each one in the journal of despair. haha. Thanks Jefferson, and everyone.

Well not to be an I toad-a-so but as you know....it's not easy.
If certain things are not in place you get nothing but shit results. I've seen it a number of times.
Some folks can do this with very little effort. But for most of us it takes a lot of hard earned work to make it actually succeed.

Good read. It's no surprise that the government wants to vilify cannabis and, to a lesser extent, its users. With the "public safety" narrative they used to sneak legalization past the moral authority, I'm not surprised to see a bunch of links to rhetoric spouted by the wankers in opposition to legalization.

On the seed note, I recently had a pkg from Oregon accidentally routed to Thailand then back to Canada. Customs opened both the envelope and the individual seed packs, there was tape over the incisions. They were delivered with no seeds missing. Maybe they've just given up, or they replaced them with some hemp seeds or some hermie prone, Cali Connection shit. Hopefully they've given up.

Lol, buying clones and seeds from LPs. That's some funny shit right there!
