I've said it before, I'm not a big fan of defoliating. A little bit, such as removing fan leaves at branch junctions to let in light, is OK, but I resist the urge to remove a lot of leaves - especially around bud sights - as that's where energy (sugars, starches) and nutrient is stored, and the plant uses less energy to transport them to where they are needed compared to drawing fresh nutrient solution through the roots and xylem and photosynthesising more. I've noticed defoliating leads to more bud sights, but the buds tend to be smaller.

Different strains will react differently under heavier red lights. Some strains love it.
Yes, I've noticed the further towards the equator you travel - where sativas evolved - the redder it gets around dawn and dusk due to the thicker atmosphere. At higher altitudes - where indicas evolved - the atmosphere is thinner and the sky appears much bluer. Mountains cast shadows long before the sun goes down. Just a thought.

I also believe because of the years of indoor cultivation and selection that plants have evolved over the years to perform best under HPS. This is not always the case but it does explain why some have so much more success under hps than they do under LED's. But that's all going to change with more research and broader spectrums

Totally disagree...not interested in arguing this topic...

I don’t think any of the seeds i’m using came from those places...at least, my checks weren’t cashed there....

Hps is so old school...with no ability to tweek spectrum...and so much wasted electricity...dying breed for personal growers...lol...come & get it...

Its still used by farms all around the world and is much more popular than LEDs in a commercial environment.
Really? Kinda like coal....

Like i said...old school...wastes so much electricity...but dirt cheap startup....that’ll end soon with the bottom falling out of legal cannabis prices....and the efficacy and efficiency of commodity white leds...and soon, tunable led spectrum...

But i think i mentioned “dying breed for personal growers”...

For DIY and the non protected boards you buy they are ok. A commercial environment is quite different. And they do need tunable spectrums.

The future is here, its called the diode...

they’ve replaced tubes in most other electronics for decades...just now reaching the horticultural lighting industry....

Hort lighting customers will wise up quickly once they understand the benefits diodes have over tubes...principally, profit...

And i hope an understanding of this will soon drive the development of dim-n-tune controllers for diode-based hort lights...

I think the hps isn't dead yet, not by a long shot. There are some big advantages in not running a heatsink especially in a green house, I have designed a few ways around it but it does get expensive.

And hps doesn’t have heat issues?

These are solvable tech and economic issues, the companies who solve them will be the winners...

Keep going gentlemen. I love the HPS vs LED debate. I lean more towards or_gro but do see why alot people lean towards HPS

It's not quite the big waste of energy you think. Vetical HPS growers can still yield 2 grams per watt. Horizontal hood grows are where light (electricity) is wasted and heat is allowed to build up.

Haha! While indoor cannabis has been grown under successive generations of HIDs for 30-40 years, there are still differences between sativa and indica types ranging from the obvious (DLI flowering length, type of high) to resistance to heat and mold. A dog is still a wolf.

Verti-what?

And on the second point, haha would have been sufficient...
