Black Jack Auto Day 60 of Flower What Gives?

So this is the 2nd autoflower run i have done. The first went ok bit ill be honest there wasnt really any speed advantage which is the only reason i can see 90% of people running autos.

But i decide to give it one more try bc i had some black jack auto beans i had gottne as a freebie. Im on day 60 and triches are milky and 10% amber but when i look at the plants they just doesnt look close to done to me. 80% of the pistils are still white and it just looks like they have 2 or 3 weeks to go but i know my triches will be 30% amber by mon-wed next week. Has me scared to cut it down.

Yes i LST and topped them as u will see in the pics. I always do with my fem beans with great results so i fig why not. But everything has been fine since day 1 so surely that has nothing to do with it. What do you guys think by the pic? Doesnt it look premature?

They don't look done to me yet but as pointed out a closeup of the colas would help. Lots of white hairs says 'not yet' to me but the condition of the trichs is the main indicator. Mostly milky with a few amber and hardly any white hairs is when I start cropping.

Many of the trichs may not have formed full balls on top which would also say not yet but you gotta look real close.

Resin is what we want. Rosen is not in the dictionary but rosin is what you put on your bow to play your violin. ;)

:peace:

Those plants have weeks left. DON"T EVEN THINK about looking at trichomes until you have 90% amber stigma(pistils). Then give the plant 2 more weeks, and watch the trichomes if you want. I havn't looked at trichomes in years though. If you harvest if any significant amount of white stigma you are leaving yield and quality on the table PERIOD. The BEST smoke comes from healthy properly rippened and fully mature buds.

Ty guys sry it took me so long to get back to u. I did alot of research and learned this is a huge debate. Both sides make sense but all the big name growers say go by the trichs and the reason is pure common sense. We know the diff stages the trichs go through bc science and science has told us and proved u can tell if trichs r most potent when milky and then turns to CBN i think when amber. All of us r farming for trichomes whether ur growing for flowers or collecting the trichomes through an extraction process. So why would we look at any other indicator to figure out if our trichomes are at the point u want them other than the trichomes? Not that i 100% agree but its a damn compelling argument. How do u debate that?

I like mine to have lots of amber for a moor couch lock.It all depends on how you wount your weed to turn out on what day you harvest.jmo

There is nothing wrong with looking at trichomes, that is how we dial in the finish date. However the point I try to express to new growers is not to look at them too soon.

Trichomes are not always an easy thing to read, and new guys are constantly getting it wrong. They check the trichomes on leaves or only from one angle. If you look at a clear trichome from the top it will usually look cloudy because it magnifies the stalk under it.

Trichs need to be looked at on the buds, at multiple points around the plant, from the correct angles. Otherwise you get very wrong ideas of the maturity levels.

While trichomes may dial in the harvest date, you shouldn't be messing with looking at them until the plant is actually to that point. I wouldn't suggest harvestin by just one metric. You should always be looking at all the signals the plant is giving. It is REALLY hard to over ripen a plant.

Yeah i get what ur saying but of a person has studied enough to know to get a scope and look at the trichomes they probably know to look at several different buds on the plant at top mid and bottom and what percentage of amber they are after i mean amber is amber and def the easiest to phase of the trich to spot imo. Its the cloudy/clear thats tricky.

Ive been growing for years i quit for the better part of 10 yrs and autos werent really a thing back then. But this plant the trichs r def where i would norm chop it but by the pistils it doesnt look close to done. So i have to make a decision and in my decision making i feel since like rasta jeff told me we r after trichs y would u go by anything else and i literally have no rebuke for that. Thats y i dont get the guys who say they do t even look at trichs and thats a myth. But its science dude science has proved the diff stages of the trichs and that we r farming for the trichs and i have never once got a response other than basically bc i said so or they say everyone is entitled to their opinion. Idk just an interesting debate to me.

yes I also use a scope to look at the buds and I never take the hole plant down at the same time.i try to make 3 harvest off the same plant I take the tops off first let the reast swell up moor and take the bottem of the plant last.i also get moor wait and better pot like that..happy growing to you this season hope its a good.

Your right it is science. The trichomes will mature in stages, and cloudy is peak THC. Trichomes also continue to grow as the plant grows :), and if the plant is still creating new bracts and stigma then it is still producing new trichomes. So if you are farming trichomes then you want to grow as many as possible :) right? Why would you cut a plant that is still clearly trying to grow more lovely buds and trichomes for you?

I never just suggest people listen to me because "I said so". I don't suggest anything that isn't backed with at least basic science and plant biology. I certainly do not know everything.

I have grown 1k + plants over the past 13 years though and with extensive research and experience I do feel I've learned a few things about the way these plants grow.

Anyway I digress, I tell everyone harvest when you want. Your plants aren't mine, so frankly it doesn't matter to me. However you posted the thread so I shared the info on best practice harvesting. The best smoke comes from healthy properly ripened buds.
