Cutting Vegging fems to size

Hi Guys,

I have 4 fems in my tent. They are vegging.
2 of the fems are way ahead - the other 2 had some issues and got sick when i sprayed with canola oil.

They are recovering but now the plants are all over the place size wise.

Can i simply trim down the 2 that are too big and continue vegging?
I was thinking of making clones when i trim the plants smaller. Using the parts that get cut instead of throwing them out.
id like them all to be roughly the same size before they go into flower.

I dont care if im wasting time doing this - i just want them all to be about the same size before flowering.

Im not sure thats a very good idea, I would never mess with good healthy plants just so you can accommodate the runts, The runts may never fully grow out of the stunting/issues they had, the healthy plants will just overtake the space again

Personally, i would keep the canopy flat, prop the smaller plants up in height if needed to keep them equal to the healthy girls.

No more spraying with canola oil lol

Canola oil?... why?
Canola oil is used in many 'organic' bug sprays and works like neem oil in that it coats the bugs so they can't breathe and they die a slow, painful death. I add 7-10ml/L of either to my Safer's End All concentrate when I mix up a batch to make it extra effective.

Like neem oil using too much can cover the stomata on the undersides of the leaves so the plant can't breathe either then your plants suffer. The day after spraying for bugs I'll do a similar spray with RO water to rinse crap off but often don't without any noticeable harm.

I suspect he may have used too much.

I never think twice about chopping plants down to size.

You could just set the shorter plants on something to get them even with the taller ones but during the stretch the taller ones may stretch a lot more than the shorter ones so keep that in mind. Do you have lots of room to raise lights just in case? Crushing the stems and letting the tops flop over is another option when they stretch too much and works well. The tops still grow fine and produce even bigger colas than if left alone in my experience even if the stems split open as long as they don't snap off entirely but if you work the stems well so they are good and soft it shouldn't happen.

Good time to make some clones and get a head start on the nect crop or plant some outside if you find a sneaky spot. ;)

Good luck!

ok guys,

problem. my plants are stretching like crazy.
its been like 48 hours into switch to 12 12 and im worried.
im gonna have to trim these big fems cos they gonna hit the roof of the tent otherwise...

Sounds like they are going stretch lots. OldMedUser hit the nail on the head. Bending. Lots of bending. Maybe strap down the bent branches to some bamboo stakes to keep them from popping back up. Have the same issue with my current grow. 2 plants way taller than the other 2. The tall ones were close to the max I could raise my light. Lots of bending the first couple weeks saved the day. Also raised the other plants to help even out the canopy and ensure the shorter plants get enough light.

Another thing you could do to slow them down is strip a ton of fan leaves off the tall ones. It will redirect some of the growth energy to growing new fan leaves and help with stretch. Will also help with light penetration :)

that sounds like a great idea. cut some of the lower fan leaves on the taller ones should slow technically stop it growing so fast. and then before it can actually stretch too much its already flowering. im gonna try this

Looking good. Still early in flower. Depending on the strain, they likely will stretch more. If u can without frying them, move your light closer. It will help reduce stretch.

ill drop the light a bit.
what ive been doing is HST.
Snapping the stems at the top has been slowing them down a lot.
But some of the stems are on their 3rd HST snap at this point... it looks like a car crash survivor.
they recover from HST in like 24 - 48hours and then stretch more!

Also - the fuckers grow straight back up as if they have not been snapped / HST.
and i mean im literally bending them to the point where it leaves a break in the stem.
They angle 45 Degrees for about 24 hours and then they recover and point straight back up.

Im still happy though cos my tent is more full than ive ever seen it.
I used to grow Autos only and i could never fill my tent fully. id always have 1 or 2 plants come out "Special" and yield less than 1 oz

0.8m x 0.8m
just shy of 1m x 1m

it was one of the smallest tents i could get.
but still bigger than a 1 plant tent.
I could easily fill it with just 2 fems.
but id like variety in my smoke so i shoved 4 plants in there at once... :D
i know its a big ask. but i dont need it for selling. i just wana fill my jars with different types good weed for myself.

id rather have 4 plants yield less each than have 2 plants yield more each.
cos i want the variety

Bending helps. I can see the kink in your close up. Well done. If u want them to stay bent you will have to tie them down. Your space looks bigger in pics. Have u thought about removing some fan leaves? It will help with better light penetration, slow down stretch, and give better air flow. Will help improve yield too.
