defoliation bud leaves and leds

Given the lack of penetration and intensity of leds compared to hps I feel like I need to clear more bottom sucker buds and a lot more fan leaves. I’m not worried about stress in flower, more if the cons of blocking light, outshine the energy the fan leaves help provide

I hope you get some worthwhile replies! This one is not.
My experiment for node spacing, (T5's vs burple LED), was interesting. I continued the experiment through flowering with the burple LED and in utter disappointment threw the LED into my junk room.
T5's for clones and vegging will do for me, because a 63 year old dog didn't learn a new trick!!!

I say yes but be very careful or you may end up feeling like you over did it.

I trim quite a bit during the veg to help the penetration and get rid of the slower developing nodes but I pretty much leave them alone once they go into flower.

After they have fully transitioned you will be able to see much easier how far the light is effectively penetrating with the lowest buds having the least amount of pistils or girth I used that as the line to trim under and then just any large fan leaves covering critical bud sites if you cant tuck them or move them.

Haven’t been paying them attention for the last 2 weeks just watering them and there’s a significant amount of tiny buds on some of them at the bottom. And a fair amount of huge fan leaves blocking the top buds along the stem

My LEDs penetrate just fine. Im using around 1200w What light are you using? How many watts are you drawing at the outlet?
Quantum boards, around 520watts in around 4x4 area maybe slightly larger. My clones to straight flower plants on the table looks as thought they don’t need much to any cut back. It’s these unruly old mothers that’s giving problems. They are atleast 2.5-3ft tall

Your in the led section. Most burples I haven’t heard good things about

I know nothing about LED lighting. Read some posts on LED lighting and saw that burples were not recommend by the experienced.
Edit: You can tell an old dog not to chase after cheap LEDs, but sometimes even old dogs won't learn until bitten in the ass. Thank you!

My camera is shitty I’ll try to get better pics later. My family member used to veg and clone for me now he moved to Cali. Did a horrible job with mom care before he left

I almost fell victim to them, cheap leds and hps are not the same take 3-400 and give it a shot so far I’m liking how things are going with my test flowering

Those would have benefited from some LST its going to be harder now to space those nodes out effectively

For next grow I would look into Low stress training and/or scrogging to maximize the effectiveness of your lights they will be much easier to manage once you get that down

Thanks. I have been using 1000 HPS for sometime for flowering.
Was looking to see if (cheap) LED was better than T5's for cloning/vegging.

What done is done .... just let them be and continue to stack.
You will probably have to do some supporting after a few weeks asthey ut on weight.

You got weeks to go. Let them ride.
I did some last min bending the ones in the back was TALL!!. I mainly grow sog style on tables. I started these with hps but wanted to try out LEDS. These was old moms that I used to make some fresh coco clone moms from. And the extra clones I just through on a 2x4 table with 4 288s over them. Started getting some bleached top leaves so I learned they can def be strong. The 134qb light spread is soft enough to where the tops can damn near touch the boards. That’s (12) 132s at 520 watts

What do you consider cheap. Less heat then t5, better light spread, and you can control the wattage. 4 pack of Hlg 132 v2 was 134$ plus a 80 to 320 driver(depending on veg space and strength you need. Frame it and you got your veg setup.

My 4' T5 units were way cheaper and the cost of lamp/ bulb replacement is something that I can live with. ( edit: Using no exhaust blower and only AC when ambient temps are above 80F (around 27C). Thank you.
