1000 watt 12plants

Sup guys I have this 4x8 tent that I cut the frame down to make a 4x7 to fit perfectly into a room, but idk if 1000w hps would enough for 12 plants in 3 gallon pots thinking of vegging for 6 weeks

Could you put the 1000w on a light rail?...If not, then you should perhaps look into some extra lighting, as there will probably be a couple spots that don't recieve light very well. You'll be achieving 35 watts per square foot of canopy space with your 1kw, which isn't bad, but you'll see much larger yields if you can bump that on up to around 50w per square foot. :) I just recently added 2 315w CMH lights, one on each side of my 1000w, for a 5x5 space and I'm really happy that I invested the extra money! If you're strapped for money, then do what ya can for perimeter lighting. CFL's will work in a pinch, or cheaper chinese made LED panels.

Gotcha I was even thinking putting a tarp inside to hide everything(ac,carbon filter,ballast )and make the actual grow area smaller to get the proper lighting for the plants

If you do decide to go with that, try getting a large roll of mylar to take the place of where you would be putting the tarp. That way it doesn't only help reduce light loss, but actually refelcts the light right back at the plant. :)

1000w will nicely cover a 4x4 or 5x5 area . I cover a 4x4 and keep mine as close as I can for deeper penetration. I use a nice wide air cooled reflector so it works great for heat control and has decent distribution. Eventually, I want to switch to LED so I can have the same 1000w spread more evenly over the whole canopy instead of emanating from the one central source.

I'd have to recommend the hortilux HPS bulbs in regard to HID lights...so far, they're the best I've found. Although I've no doubt that there are better bulbs out there, that's just the best I've used.
